SANITATION WORKER II Class specifications are only intended to present a
descriptive summary of the range of duties and responsibilities that are
associated with specified positions. Therefore, specifications may not

convey the qualifications of incumbents within the position. DEFINITION:
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a variety of city
vehicles and equipment. On occasion in the absence of Heavy Equipment
operator may operate larger and more complex equipment. Work will
involve maintenance and servicing of assigned equipment in addition to
manual labor duties. Other duties could include those of the Landfill
Attendant during their absence. Operation of assigned equipment makes up
approximately 80% of the assigned work with the remainder doing more
labor/construction work. Assignments are usually received in the form of
specific orders to complete assigned work. Work is reviewed both in
progress and upon completion for execution of the job, care of the
equipment, and safety of operation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but
are not limited to the following) 1. Responsible for the safe and
efficient operation of a variety of equipment as assigned. 2. Cleans,
performs minor repairs and/or preventive maintenance on equipment. Makes
necessary work orders or reports. 3. May assist personnel engaged in
manually cleaning streets of debris, or in assisting with removal of
trash. 4. May operate power saws, chippers, compressors, chain saws,
etc. May perform semi-skilled labor work in connection with various
maintenance and construction activities and other departmental
operations such as lawn and ground maintenance, cleaning picnic areas
and restrooms, etc.. 5. May assist in surveying work, assist in welding
and other construction trade functions, and other labor activities. 6.
May assume the duties of the Landfill Attendant during their absence. 7.
Duties may also include removing objects from trash containers, cleaning
around containers, moving objects/debris that may cause damage to
private property or city equipment and moving and/or repairing trash
containers. 8. Must be able to work varying schedules to include some
weekends and possible overtime. 9. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: (The following are representative sample of
the KSAs necessary to perform essential duties of the position)
Ability to cooperate effectively with employees to provide a friendly,
productive work environment. Must be able to understand and follow oral
or written instructions and observe proper safety precautions.
QUALIFICATIONS: (The following are minimal qualifications necessary for
entry into the classification.) Education and Experience: High school
diploma or GED equivalent. I hereby acknowledge that I possess the
necessary minimum qualifications as indicated above: initial SPECIAL
CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS, LICENSES REQUIRED: Must have a valid
Oklahoma Class B CDL license and an acceptable driving record. PHYSICAL,
MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS: ? Must lift, walk and carry
50 lbs. on a regular basis. Lifting of over 50 lbs. with assistance on a
regular basis. Light to moderate lifting on a more frequent basis. There
may on occasion be some moderate to heavy lifting of equipment, some
inconvenience or discomfort in work assignments, etc. ? Must be able to
perform strenuous tasks for prolonged periods in adverse weather
conditions and in mud, snow, ice, etc. Job requires the incumbent to be
aware of and observe safe working procedures. ? Must constantly stoop,
kneel, crawl and bend over to lift and do the job. Must be able to climb
onto and into truck. ? Must have vision and eye-hand coordination to
operate safely and proficiently; hearing to observe engine sounds. ?
Must be available to work during inclement weather and during snow/ice
storms. ? Must be able to operate a chainsaw. Major physical
inconvenience or discomfort routinely present in the work situation.
About 90-100% of the time the incumbent is outdoors. Job requires the
incumbent to be aware of and observe safe working procedures. Such
hazards that are encountered include but are not limited to noxious
odors, glass and sharp objects, diseases, hepatitis, hazardous
materials, snakes, poison ivy, and other wires, trees, and obstacles. I
