maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Essential Duties:The essential duties for the Roadway Maintenance Tech I include:Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.Performs other job responsibilities as assignedAdditional duties for Roadway Maintenance Tech II include all the above and:Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.Maintains construction project records and/or bridge inspection records; processes related paperwork; reviews files for compliance with the bridge inspection Manual of Procedures.Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a half cubic yard or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck.Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs welding; and uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products.Inspects routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at point of supply to ensure construction materials meet Department specifications.Works on a survey crew; operates survey instruments such as theodolite, transit and level, electronic distance meter, and total survey station.Additional duties for Roadway Maintenance Tech III include all the above and:Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, and accident forms.Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.Operates complex heavy equipment such as a motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor, and profiling/milling machine.May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications.Trains other employees.
