Assists the Radiation Oncologist and other Medical Physicists regarding IMRT QA, dosimetry, calibration, treatment planning, and radiation protection.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Master of Science degree in Physics, Radiation Physics, or equivalent.
2. Certification in therapeutic radiological physics must be attained within 3 years of hire.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Assists with treatment planning as needed. Assists in development of computerized treatment planning. Assists with dosimetry for Iridium, Cesium and other isotopes as needed for Brachytherapy.
2. Assists with treatment planning as needed. Assists in development of computerized treatment planning. Assists with dosimetry for Iridium, Cesium and other isotopes as needed for Brachytherapy.
3. Assists in the oversight of use of ionizing radiation to insure compliance with Federal and State regulations. Following an inspection, assists in making any changes needed. Helps Monitors film badge records of the hospital and carry out the hospital ALARA program (keeping exposure as low as reasonably achievable) and assists in the updating of radiation safety procedures.
4. Performs the calibration of x-ray equipment in hospital. Performs radiation protection surveys as needed. Assists in the preparation and submission of the appropriate documents to renew and amend the hospital radioactive materials licenses with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the State of West Virginia.
5. Provides calibration of sealed sources (Cs-137, Ir-192, etc.). Ensures that periodic leak tests of sealed sources are performed. Is responsible for accountability of sealed sources and therapeutic isotopes. Maintains log of use of isotopes. Assists in the provision and oversight of Provides and radiation safety procedures in the use of therapeutic isotopes both in the department and on the nursing floors.
6. Assists technologists, dosimetrist, and chief medical physicist with and involved patient set-ups. Makes periodic checks of radiotherapy charts to see that they are technically correct. Assists the chief medical physicist and dosimetrist in development and oversight of procedures of tumor localization in collaboration with the Oncologist.
