The City of Lansing is seeking a Residential Appraiser to join a team of professionals within the Assessors Office. This position assists a team that is responsible for employing mass appraisal techniques as well as individual appraisals of residential property. If you have knowledge of building types, basic construction components, knowledge of property tax laws, and real estate terminology, we strongly encourage you to apply! SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAINING:
– Must possess and maintain a Michigan Certified Assessing Officer (Level 2) Certification (MCAO) from the State of Michigan
– Possess and maintain a valid drivers license
IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:
– High school diploma or GED acceptable
– Associates Degree preferred
– One (1) to three (3) years of experience as a residential appraiser in either the public or private sector
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS INLCUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
– Performs residential appraisals by physically inspecting properties which includes measuring, taking photographs, interviewing property owners and accurately compiling the data.
– Determines age, style, depreciation and quality of construction of buildings requiring observation, interpretation and evaluation of information.
– Collects building permit data and modifies property records and valuations as applicable.
– Reviews sale information to determine accuracy in sale type, percentage transferred and other related information.
– Studies construction, sales data and neighborhood trends to establish appraised value of property.
– May conduct research and defend cases before the Michigan Tax Tribunal, utilizing the three approaches to value, cost, income and sales approach; which require the ability to organize and be conversant in the principles and methods of persuasion.
