We are seeking a Part Time Equestrian Instructor who will work with our students (grades 9-12). This person should be passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with learning differences and mental health/behavioral challenges.

Pay:

$23.50-$26.79/hr (depending on experience)

$1,500 sign on bonus(1/2 paid in your first paycheck and the other 1/2 after 90 days of hire)

For over 50 years — The Glenholme School, part of Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, has provided a comprehensive residential program and services for children with learning differences and special needs. Located in picturesque Washington, CT the Equestrian Instructor will be part of a cohesive, passionate and dynamic team. The selected candidate will foster Devereux’s mission and values of quality care as well as providing top-notch and individualized therapeutic care for our students.

Schedule:

Monday-Friday 1pm-5pm

Primary Responsibilities Include:

Horsecare including but not limited to (grooming, riding the horses {walk, trot, canter}, ground work, barn chores, horsemanship activities, etc.)

Demonstrate a student centered approach to instruction

Participation in a reflective professional development process

Meeting the requirements of the IEP/ Treatment Plan process by contributing to a data-based present level of student performance, accommodations, modifications, transitional elements as well as any additional pertinent information based on the student’s needs

Integrating multi-modality instructional approaches in lesson planning and delivery to meet the diverse learning style of students in the classroom

Prioritizing and promote a safe and secure environment for student learning through utilization of social emotional learning

Formally and informally collaborate with Teaching Assistants, Occupation/Speech Therapists, Social Workers, Nursing, Behavior Specialists and school leaders regarding student and teacher supports

Implementing PBIS campus approaches (5:1 praise to corrective feedback ratio, focusing on skill development, utilizing varied approaches based on levels of student behavior) with a high level of fidelity

Qualifications

Experience with direct care of horses is required

Understand and knowledge of English and Western riding

Experience with schooling horses

Able to identify equine illness and lameness

Able to identify horse body language and behaviors

Experience working with all different ages of horses

Other Qualifications:

Three years related work experience or one year related work experience and two years of specialized schooling

A letter from your current and/or previous employer verifying your experience in this career

High School Graduate

Six credits in professional education from a regionally accredited college or univeristy (Devereux will assist you with this)

At least 36 clock hours in special education studies, including understanding the growth and development of exceptional children (children who are handicapped, gifted, talented, or require special education) and methods for identifying, planning for, and working effectively with them in the regular classroom (Devereux will also assist you with this)

What are the approved courses for the special education course required of all certification holders (ct.gov)
