Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Dean II Supervisor for the School of Graduate Studies.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Manages a portfolio of SGS programs designed to promote graduate student excellence, including the SGS Merit and Achievement Awards program, SGS Convocation, SGS internal grants and fellowships and fellowship advising through GradFund for externally funded, merit-based grants and fellowships.
  • Serves as the campus expert on external, merit-based graduate fellowships and grants and will be the point person for graduate students and their programs as well as for program officers and representatives from government agencies and private foundations on matters relating to pre-award applications and post-award management of the fellowships.
  • Identifies competitive candidates for an extensive portfolio of over 3000 fellowship competitions at the graduate level, including but not limited to the Fulbright US Student Program, the Fulbright Hays Dissertation Fellowship, the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, and the Mellon ACLS Dissertation Innovation Fellowship.
  • Leads programming to recruit and educate graduate students on external fellowship and grant opportunities and to provide individual and cohort advising in support of developing competitive applications.
  • Leads and manages the GradFund Peer Mentoring Fellowship Advising program.
  • Handles advising and mentoring graduate students, budgetary authority over the program, and hiring, training, and assessment of 7 graduate assistants. The expectation is that the number of graduate students applying for and winning external fellowships will increase.
  • Determines if GAs are reappointed or not reappointed for subsequent years. Pre-award grant and fellowship services fall under this positions purview.
  • Designs, executes and evaluates and modifies fellowship services.
  • Manages internal awards including the SGS Conference and Research Travel Awards, the Bevier and University Fellowship Competition and the Presidential Graduate Fellowship Nomination Process for New Brunswick/Piscataway.
  • Serves as coordinating official for both the NSF GRFP and the CSGrad4US Fellowship. Independently Chair both the Convocation and Merit and Achievement Awards Committees.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Masters degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Three years of relevant experience.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid drivers license would be required for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and management of student centered programming.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Excel, Work, and Outlook.
  • Experience working with CMS and LMS and relational databases.
  • A willingness to learn new platforms (Submittable and FileMaker).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of graduate education.
Equipment Utilized
  • Must have command of Microsoft Office Suite, the Submittable Platform, Canvas, Filemaker or experience with another relational database.
  • Must have excellent Excel skills.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • The Assistant Dean must travel be able to travel to present in person to SGS graduate programs.
