Finger Lakes Community Health (FLCH) was founded in 1989 with an original mission of serving the regions agricultural workers by linking individuals to area resources and providing essential health services. In 2009 the organization expanded to become a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), serving patients of all incomes, ethnicities and walks of life. Over the last decade, FLCH has grown to provide medical, dental, and behavioral health services to over 28,000 patients at eight health centers. Job Summary:
The Maintenance Custodian is primarily responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the facility’s smooth operation. This role also includes basic indoor cleaning of facilities and occasional outdoor maintenance, such as mowing and light landscaping. The Maintenance Worker plays a key role in maintaining the functionality, safety, and appearance of the facility. This position will be required to work at other FLCH facilities and assist with internal deliveries.
Main Responsibilities:
Maintenance and Repairs:
Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets, and tightening loose fixtures.
Conduct minor electrical repairs, such as resetting breakers, replacing switches, and maintaining light fixtures.
Assist with basic plumbing tasks, including unclogging drains, repairing minor leaks, and replacing washers.
Perform minor carpentry work, including patching walls, painting, assembling furniture, and installing shelves.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and complete work orders in a timely manner.
Maintain and organize tools, equipment, and supplies; ensure they are in good working condition.
Identify and report major repair needs to the Facilities Manager for further action.
Assist with emergency maintenance tasks, including water leaks and other urgent repairs.
Indoor Cleaning and Sanitizing:
Perform basic cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting as needed.
Clean and sanitize restrooms; replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
Empty trash and recycling bins and ensure waste is disposed of properly.
Assist with maintaining clean and orderly common areas such as lobbies, break rooms, and kitchens.
Occasional Outdoor Maintenance:
Mow small lawn areas, trim edges, and perform light landscaping to maintain a neat appearance.
Perform basic landscaping tasks such as weeding, removing debris, and watering plants.
Operate basic outdoor equipment, such as push mowers and trimmers, in a safe and effective manner.
Inspect the grounds for any maintenance needs or safety hazards and report issues promptly.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow all health, safety, and building regulations to ensure a safe work environment.
Use maintenance and cleaning chemicals safely and store them properly.
Report potential hazards or unsafe conditions within the facility and on the grounds.
Education and Qualifications:
High School or Equivalency Diploma required
Prior maintenance, contracting, or construction experience required
The ability to work flexible hours — some evenings are required
A valid New York State driver’s license in compliance with FLCH drivers’ policy
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to reach above shoulder level to work, bend, squat, sit, stand, stoop, and kneel.
Must have vision that is adequate to read memo’s computer screen, registration forms, and other documents.
