Job Description
Perform maintenance and repair work in a University setting on light commercial and residential plumbing systems and their associated equipment i. e. restroom fixtures, toilets, urinals, sinks, roof drains and plumbing piping. Maintain the campus irrigation systems, swimming pools and their associated equipment.

Knowledge, skills and abilities
Considerable knowledge in plumbing repair and maintenance at a journeymen level. Considerable knowledge of plumbing practices, materials, and tools; plumbing related fixtures and appliances. Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions; construction blueprints and specifications; backflow prevention devices. Some knowledge of swimming pool operation and maintenance. Demonstrated ability in troubleshooting plumbing systems; ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Special licenses, registration or certification
Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

Basic work experience at a journeyman level in the plumbing field installing and repairing plumbing equipment such as sewage lines, toilets, urinals, faucets, sinks etc. Some experience working with light commercial, industrial plumbing systems.
Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)
Master plumbing license. Some experience working as a journeyman level plumber in a higher education environment. Demonstrated ability to install, test and repair backflow prevention devices. Possess a current Journeyman plumbing license. (preferred) Possess and maintain DPOR back flow protection device tester’s license for Virginia (Preferred)
Conditions of Employment
Facilities Management employees are considered essential personnel and subject to working during university closings.
This position is designated essential personnel for emergency closings. The holder of this position is also subject serving on a schedule to be called back to work during non-work hours. In such an event, this position is required to respond to after-hours calls and will carry an ODU cell phone on a rotational basis. While serving as the after-hours call-back person, the individual must remain available by telephone, text, or pager while off site and respond to any message within fifteen (15) minutes.
