Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse who is physically present on the unit, the Student Nurse Extern is responsible for providing nursing care as delegated by the primary RN for the adult or geriatric patient (as defined in the department scope of care), within the scope of the knowledge and training received in their generic nursing program. The role is both a learning and operational role. Primary responsibilities may include direct and indirect patient care activities, positioning, ambulating, ADLs, et Ability to take personal responsibility for job action and performance, comprehend and perform job responsibilities, and adhere to the policies and procedures of the facility. Ability to actively learn and follow instructions, policies and procedures in a timely fashion including the ability to learn new techniques or procedures without incurring overwhelming stress.
This is a Per Diem position with NO benefits. Positions are available in med/surg telemetry, stepdown IMC and Telemetry, and ED.
This position is valid for nursing students only. Nurse Externs are eligible to apply for the next available nurse residency cohort once they graduate. If the nurse extern is not selected as a nurse resident, employment will end.
Job Requirements:
Currently attending and in good standing at an accredited (ACEN/CCNE) school of nursing.
Current BLS certifications.
Satisfactory completion of Fundamentals of Nursing course and clinical.
Anticipated graduation date of less than 1 year from hire date.
One Letter of Recommendation from clinical instructor and/or professor.
Unofficial transcript with cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater .
