Position Title Lifeguard

Student Status Work Study Optional –You are not required to be a Federal Work Study Recipient to hold this position.

Hiring Range 12.30/hour

Department/Employer Operating Hours 6:00AM-10:00PM

How many hours per week are required? 10

Description of Primary Duties

Ensuring member safety by providing patron surveillance

Responding to emergency situations in accordance with established methods and procedures

Enforcing rules and regulations regarding pool activities and safety measures.

Reporting any repairs needed to the pool or other equipment

Performing shift cleaning duties, such as scrubbing pool gutters, using the pool vacuum, and hosing the deck

Opening and closing pool before and after operating hours and scheduled events

Performing water quality tests for the pool and spa using a test kit

Adding chemicals to the pool and/or spa when necessary, if trained to do so

Assisting participants with problems, questions, and concerns

Being knowledgeable about all URC programs

Recording attendance of the use of the pool

Filling out accident report forms and other incident documentation

Performing other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Preferred American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification. Will provide certification to desirable candidates.

Must be able to swim 200 yards continuously, retrieve a 10lb brick from the bottom of the pool, and tread water without the use of your hands or arms for 2 minutes. Failure to successfully complete the above requirements will disqualify candidates from employment eligibility for the lifeguard position with Missouri State University.
