Job Overview:
The Senior Payroll Specialist uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external issues to improve the Payroll Discipline within McDermott. They will act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and share their conceptual and practical expertise related to the Payroll Discipline. The Senior Payroll Specialist solves complex problems and uses discipline-specific knowledge to improve their products or services. The Senior Payroll Specialist impacts a range of customer, operational, project, or service activities with the Payroll Team and other related teams and ensures that they work within the appropriate guidelines and policies.
Key Task and Responsibilities:
• Process US and Canada payroll taxes according to tax guidelines
• Strong payroll tax analysis and reconciliation, balancing taxes monthly, quarterly and annually
• Produce W-2s and T-4s annually
• Prepare/create payroll tax reports that support analysis of taxes
• Ahere to strict tax deadlines (payments, reconciliations, filing) per department and tax authority regulations
• Research and resolve tax issues urgently, prioritizing tasks daily
• Escalate tax issues to manager as needed
• Process amendments as needed
• Adhere to all established SOX controls
• Maintain documentation as needed (desk procedures, job aids, checklists)
• Perform and/or assist with testing of new or existing system processes and functionalities
• Ensure all tax processing documents stored in designated online files
• Attend and participate in regular scheduled meetings
• Contribute to process improvement opportunities
• Cross-train on other payroll processes and assist with other payroll tasks as needed
• Liaise with tax vendors, manager, teammates and other departments
Essential Qualifications and Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field is desired
• Minimum of five to seven (5 – 7) years experience with extensive payroll tax knowledge
• Working with ADP SmartCompliance for payroll taxes required
• Ability to multi-task with critical thinking ability
• Team contributor with good communication skills — verbal and written
• Ability to handle sensitive employee data with a high level of confidentiality
