Powell is a manufacturer of switchgear and other electrical equipment. We are currently hiring a Fabrication Leadperson at our Southeast Houston manufacturing facility.

Position Summary

A Leadperson Fab Operations is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of a fabrication department within a manufacturing facility. They supervise a team of fabricators, ensuring that production schedules are met, quality standards are maintained, and safety protocols are followed. They may also assist in training new employees, troubleshooting equipment issues, and implementing process improvements to optimize productivity and efficiency. Strong leadership, organizational, and technical skills are essential for success in this role.

Essential Responsibilities

Train employees; assist in new employee training plans

Communicate and delegate daily priorities to other employees

Release jobs to QA/QC

Lead Quality Initiatives

Communicate within department and with other departments to resolve issues and drive timely completion of jobs

Review bill of materials and drawings for issues

Assist in interviews and new hire selection

Identify training needs for the group and help develop appropriate training plan

Assist in tracking job efficiency and productivity

Assist in employee evaluation process

Communicate passdown information

Lead Safety and Quality meetings

Support the enforcement of Powells policies and safety program

Create work orders and write HFDs.

Troubleshoot machine problems and make recommendations when necessary.

Communicate within department and with other departments to resolve issues and drive timely completion of jobs

Coordinate inventory cycle counts

Forecasting for Raw and External Vendor Related Materials (as needed)

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum education level of a High School Diploma or General Education Equivalent Diploma is preferred.

8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment

Knowledge of system software (i.e. Oracle, MES, True View) to look up parts and drawings.

Lift up to 50lbs using proper lifting techniques.

Skills, Abilities & Other Requirements

Knowledge and understanding of Engineering Change orders

Read and understand spec sheets and follow proper use of hardware by spec requirements.

Ability to identify part discrepancies and properly write HFDs for corrections

Knowledge of mechanical drawings and designs

Ability to complete complex engineering changes.

Effectively demonstrates on-time delivery and the ability to stay focused on goals and responsibilities.

Self-starter with ability to take on multiple tasks with a drive to succeed.

Challenges the status quo; looks for better or more efficient ways to get results.

Ability to adapt to new ideas, technology, processes or product changes.

Working & Environmental Conditions

Safety sensitive position in a temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.

Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (i.e., safety shoes, hard hats, bump caps, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.

Must be able to work from all type of ladders (step ladders, “A” frame ladders, etc.)

Working at heights usually no higher than 20 feet in the air on an elevated structure using proper lift equipment and Fall Protection Equipment.

Physical Requirements

Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs or step ladders

Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction

Continuous standing and walking

Able to use upper extremities frequently, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.

Must be able to meet physical lifting demand up to 50lbs.

Frequent use of hand tools and power tools
