The Medical Assistant in the Family Medicine clinic is primarily responsible for providing patients with the best medical care, preventative medicine and health maintenance, while providing exceptional customer service at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Greet/escort patient to exam room and escort exiting patients.

Record changes in patients’ medical history and update vital signs.

Preparing patients for examinations. Assisting physician during examinations, (WWE, Physicals, Breast exams, Biopsy, Colposcopy).

Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, blood draws, electrocardiograms, administer injections, dispose of contaminated supplies.

May be assigned at times to assist Provider with assessing patients at outside COVID clinic.

Authorize medication refills, triage.

Sanitation of exams rooms in-between patients.

Call patients regarding test results.

Obtain test results (labs, X-rays, MRI, CT, hospital discharger records).

Ensure incoming phone messages/mail/faxes get to the appropriate physician.

Order equipment, supplies and other items as needed.

Education and/or Experience

High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Must have 2-4 years of experience as a Medical Assistant or a Medical Assistant Certification. Must have the ability to take vitals, answer phones, interact with patients regarding their medical issues, schedule appointments, backfill cancellations, insurance authorization as appropriate and support the requirements of various providers. Must be knowledgeable in HIPAA. Experience in wound care / dressings required. Ability to be organized, multi-task and have basic understanding of prioritizing patient emergencies. Knowledge of business office practices, procedures, and equipment required.

Computer Skills

General computer literacy necessary, with proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Knowledge and proficiency with electronic health records highly desired.

Language Skills

Intermediate skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Reasoning Ability

Intermediate skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
