Role Summary

The Manager, Operations Maintenance is responsible for executing the strategy for Maintenance Control at Horizon Air (QX). As a people leader, the Manager, Operations Maintenance leads and establishes priorities for the Maintenance Control team to support operational aircraft. This role liaises with the bridge leadership in System Operations Control (SOC) and provides current and continuing reports of fleet mechanical status and coordinates maintenance requirements during irregular operations to minimize extra costs and disruptions.

Key Duties

Provide leadership, overall administration, and general direction to the Maintenance Control staff.

Develop plans for workforce utilization, required equipment, and facilities necessary to provide full support to the SOC complex.

Ensure the skill level, training, and performance of the Maintenance Control staff meet Horizon and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards.

Provide technical expertise and guidance for Maintenance Controllers.

Ensure the MEL/CDL program is administered within Horizon regulations and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and monitor MEL/COL and deferral items to ensure they are scheduled for repair on a timely basis.

Manage surveillance of Ferry Flight Permit authorizations.

Provide oversight of Short-Term Escalations.

Directly supervise Maintenance Controllers, including the authority to authorize overtime, establish assignments, counsel personnel, and create or modify Maintenance Control office policies.

Maintain continuous liaison with the System Operations Control (SOC) staff, providing current and continuing reports of the general mechanical status of the entire fleet and communicate specific routing requirements for unscheduled or scheduled maintenance.

Be the single source management contact for the current mechanical status of all OTS aircraft.

Manage and monitor progress of all field trips for aircraft out of service at any non-staffed Horizon maintenance stations including collaboration with Maintenance Control, Technical Services and Line Planning personnel, as required, to support maintenance activities.

Monitor all MEL and CDL and other restrictive maintenance items that can impact operations.

Request assistance from and direct any Horizon resources, as needed, to return company aircraft to service safely and in a timely manner.

Manage work shifts, vacation, and recurrent training to ensure adequate coverage as required. Authorize funds for charters and hotel accommodations for field trips.

Implement assistance as needed to cover irregular maintenance issues at non-maintenance stations.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

5 years of experience in maintenance operations.

2 years of leadership experience.

Bachelor’s degree or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

A mechanic certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings for at least 5 years and meet the recent experience requirements of 14 CFR 65.83 (i.e., 6 months of experience in the last 24).

Thorough working knowledge of aviation safety standards and safe operating practices, Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs), and all appropriate maintenance and airworthiness requirements of 14 CFR.

Demonstrated leadership and organization skills.

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with maintenance personnel and regulatory officials.

Professional work ethic with excellent interpersonal and communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening) skills.

Detailed oriented and highly organized with the ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum age of 18.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

In-depth understanding of Horizon Air operations specifications or equivalent with other air carrier.

Knowledge of General Procedures Manual (GPM) and other Horizon Air manuals

Airport SIDA Badge Requirements

Important notification for employees working at an airport or maintenance hangar: Employees will be required to obtain a SIDA badge provided by the airport authority and maintain good standing in order to keep their SIDA badge. Review theSIDA Badge Requirementsdocument for a comprehensive overview. If an employee does not qualify for a SIDA badge or has their SIDA badge pulled from them, the employee will be terminated.

Salary Range

$96,200 — $144,300 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
