Magnetic Seal has an opportunity for a CNC Cylindrical Grinding Machinist to join our team! This opportunity will be located onsite in Warren, Rhode Island.
Position Summary
Program, set up, operate, and maintain high-precision, CNC Cylindrical Grinding Machines in order to meet exacting dimensional and finish requirements. Create and edit grinding programs at the machine computer console. Create wheel dressing programs to achieve and maintain desired part contours. Ensure work pieces conform to engineering drawings. Maintain a high productivity rate and strive to improve productivity without jeopardizing product quality.
Essential Functions
– Create part grinding and wheel dressing programs according to finished part and/or manufacturing method requirements using the machines’ control panel.
– Set up and operate the machines to perform OD, ID, chamfer, and other grinding operations on AlNiCo material.
– Make in-process machine adjustments as necessary to maintain conformance to part specifications.
– Perform cleaning and drying of produced parts for transfer to next operation.
– Follow and maintain required documentation and collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, management, and department lead as necessary.
– Inspect critical seal dimensions using various metrology equipment such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, gages, optical comparators, profilometers, and indicators to verify product conformance.
– Select and utilize the correct work holding fixtures as defined by process documentation or part specifications.
– Change grinding wheels and dressing tools as required.
– Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering in determining tooling and fixture needs.
– Observe grinding operations to report issues and make necessary adjustments for correction.
– Review drawings, work orders, and machining instructions to ensure product conforms to specifications.
– Perform routine, light maintenance on equipment according to equipment manufacturer recommendations.
– Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly workspace.
– Perform job duties in a safe manner according to company policies and OSHA regulations.
– Be responsible for your own work and pay close attention to the details of the tasks being performed.
– Demonstrate honesty, integrity and conduct according to Magseal values and culture.
– Possess strong self-motivation, drive, and initiative to reach goals and target assignments.
– Operate other CNC or manual grinding/machining equipment due to operational logistics or when deemed necessary by management.
Qualifications:
– Must be a US citizen or a US permanent resident.
– High school diploma or equivalent.
– Minimum of three (3) years grinding experience on any of the following: ID, OD, or CNC Turning.
– CNC programming experience.
– Proficient in measuring tools, Vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, comparator, and common hand tools.
– Must be able to read complicated drawings with GD&T requirements.
– Must be local to the Rhode Island facility.
– Ability to read and write in English.
– Experience using shop mathematics and machinery handbook formulas.
– Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques.
Physical Requirements:
– Able to continuously wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
– Able to commit to regular and predictable attendance.
– Able to stand constantly.
– Able to walk occasionally.
– Must be able to bend, squat and kneel occasionally.
– Able to handle and grasp tools/equipment and products repetitively.
– Must be able to push/pull up to 10 lbs. constantly.
– Must be able to occasionally lift up to 75 lbs. with assistance.
– Visual Acuity – Able to see close detail, distance and colors.
