Summary:
Provides direct and in-direct patient care under direction of office leadership. Performs duties such as routine intake of patients which includes taking vital signs, performing point of care testing as appropriate and assuring patients understand their discharge instructions. May also be required to transport patients. They will also be required to answer phone messages, propose orders per the JPP and assure providers are made aware when there are outstanding tasks on their desktops/message center that they must complete.
Responsibilities:
Communicates and interacts with patients and families, physicians, peers and other health care members to maximize successful customer outcomes and maximize function of the unit
Orients patient to hospital environment and routine
Attends and serves on one-unit committee or educational peer opportunity to improve quality and/or engagement
Documents all aspects of patient care in a timely manner
Participates in unit quality improvement initiatives
Provides care in accordance with the patients plan of care
Label and Delivers specimens per policy
Maintains a safe environment complying with Northern Light Health policies and procedures; reports and directly addresses environmental hazards and violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed
May perform other duties upon request.
Other Information:
Education and Experience • Relevant healthcare experience or training preferred. • Current graduate of a recognized MA program or on-line course preferred. • Must have approved national certification within 6 months of hire, at which time the employee would be moved to an Medical Assistant I position. • BLS certification is to be obtained prior to caring for patients and is to be kept current. • High school diploma or GED is preferred. Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Meets MA core clinical competencies. • Demonstrate system values and integrates them into daily practice. • Actively support patient-centered care with sensitivity and respect for the diversity of human experience. • Ability to work independently and in a team atmosphere. • Basic ability to use and navigate NLH employee applications, such as to review pay statements, record timekeeping and to send and receive emails. • Ability to provide age-appropriate care. • Ability to be adaptable to a fast-paced ever-changing environment. • Skilled in exemplary customer service skills and demonstrate consistent use of Caring Behaviors. • Ability to communicate well with all members of the healthcare team.

No previous experience required.• Relevant healthcare experience or training preferred.

Lifting, moving and loading 30 to 50 pounds.
Work beyond the regularly scheduled hours.
