Job Description

Pay Rate: $105000 to $108000 per year.

Position Purpose:

At the direction of the Lab Director, responsible for day-to-day operations of the laboratory. Maintains the certified status and working procedures of the laboratory. Trains and provides guidance to the Laboratory staff in all laboratory procedures ensuring regulatory compliance. Provides second level review and approval of analytical data and quality control.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Lab Director, ensures the maintenance of the laboratorys certification status, as a nationally certified laboratory under NELAP (National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program.)

Responsible for day-to-day operation of lab.

Assists with review and revise laboratory procedures and introduces new methods in order to maintain certification status.

Remains abreast of new developments in the field and ensures that the appropriate personnel are kept informed and trained. Identifies, researches, makes recommendations and provides cost analysis for new analytical instrumentation as necessary for effective operations. Sources and interacts with outside technical sales representatives in this regard.

Schedules, trains, and reviews the work of the laboratory technicians and sample collectors to maintain an orderly workflow.

Documents and updates laboratory working procedures on a regular basis to ensure consistent operations.

Orders laboratory supplies to ensure uninterrupted operations,

Reviews and approves analytical data and quality control presented by the analysts and subcontract Laboratories to ensure validity of results.

Troubleshoots analytical procedures and instrumentation, when needed, to ensure uninterrupted operation and analysis.

Preventative maintenance on instrument. Schedules manufacturer maintenance.

Write detailed reports and prepare and deliver presentations.

Analyze complex operational and technical challenges and resolve same.

Maintain awareness of new technological advances in water industry.

Assists with method development throughout the Laboratory.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

Bachelors degree in chemistry or related field.

3-5 years of experience with Laboratory analytical experience, preferable experience with general chemistry, metals, and microbiology.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Thorough working knowledge of water quality laboratories.

Strong analytical skills.

Strong understanding of state and federal regulations.

Initiative and strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Thorough working knowledge of computers, including MS Office, Google products, and LIMS.

Working knowledge of water chemistry.

Fundamental knowledge of US EPA Safe Drinking Water Act and associated regulations.

Must be able to read complex reports and technical drawings.

Physical Requirements:

Walking, including uneven terrain; climbing hills and stairs; moderate lifting up to 25lbs; sit and stand for extend periods of time.

Must be able to see clearly, hear warning devices and alarms.

Must be able to speak to give direction and converse with others.

Must be able to smell for dangerous conditions such as sewer gasses and chlorine.
