JOB SUMMARY
This position exists only in the Mental Health Division. Provides tutoring and homework help to children of consumers during the hours of 3:00pm-7:00pm in the home or community. The tutor will create homework/activity packages for the children. Additionally, the Tutor will support the parents during school conferences as a needed.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:
Develop, plan and implement an educational program for students that meets their needs, interests and abilities as well as increasing self-motivation, independence, self-esteem and productivity.
Develop, plan and implement a curriculum that utilizes individual and small group instruction appropriate to functional and cognitive ability.
Instruct individuals in academic subject, utilizing various teaching techniques, such as phonetics, multisensory learning and repetition to reinforce learning.
Order, maintain and utilize computer software and other educational/skills building equipment and materials as part of the learning process.
Coordinate educational program with teacher aides, vocational and other rehabilitation services staff on-site and off-site at satellite ICL facilities.
Plan and conduct field trips to broaden educational and vocational skills building and experience as well as to apply practical knowledge. Facilitate activities for the children.
Observe, evaluate and prepare reports on progress of each individual and share information with other rehabilitation staff providing service to the individual.
Administer and interpret results of ability and achievement tests.
Provide resource and referral information regarding additional learning opportunities and educational options.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
· Basic knowledge of mental illness and serious emotional disturbances and substance abuse disorders.
· Basic knowledge of treatment, rehabilitation, and community support programs as they relate to consumers/residents, families, and staff.
· Basic knowledge of techniques for identifying and preventing potentially violent behavior, including crisis management techniques.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Ability to work with consumers/residents, families, and staff in a caring and respectful manner, and with due understanding of and consideration for cultural differences.
· Serve as a role model to residents/consumers.
· Ability to complete written forms and reports in an accurate and timely manner, manually and by computer.
· Ability to communicate effectively with staff, consumers/residents, families, and the public.
· Ability to accompany or transport residents/consumers (Some assignments may require possession of a valid drivers license).
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Associates degree and a minimum of 2 years’ experience tutoring and/or teaching experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 1 year above experience or a Master’s degree with experience. Preference will be given to applicants with tutoring/teaching experience with children/adolescents.
