Responsible for implementing and maintaining the Environmental, Health, and Safety program in an FDA regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. The EH&S Manager will be responsible for identifying and implementing EH&S strategies, industrial hygiene, safety and chemical regulatory requirements, training on general safety, injury reductions and emissions/waste/water management, including all applicable permitting and reporting requirements.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide EH&S guidance and compliance support to site management to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements.

Evaluate facility EH&S conditions, assess risks, and develop appropriate corrective-action plans to address deficiencies in comparison to regulations, industry standards and company policy.

Drive continuous improvement in EH&S performance and programs.

Workers’ compensation management.

Prepare, update, and provide training for Safety and regulatory compliance.

Manage reporting requirements for waste management.

Prepare environmental summaries, training reports, regulatory summaries, filings and, reporting requirements.

Regularly perform safety walk-throughs to proactively identify and correct potential safety issues.

Plan, develop, and manage site procedures for adhering to local, state, and federal EH&S regulations.

Conduct job hazard analysis and/or exposure assessments to identify occupational health hazards, including but not limited to hazardous chemicals and physical agents.

Manage EH&S audits by outside regulatory agencies.

REQUIREMENTS

Education, Qualifications & Experience

BS degree in Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Sciences or related technical discipline.

CSP Certification preferred.

Min 5 years’ experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety.

Must have the skill and ability to conduct and/or support sensitive investigations involving company personnel, assets, and/or proprietary information.

Strong working knowledge of EHS regulations and requirements (EPA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and ability to demonstrate effective interaction with regulatory agencies.

Experience in manufacturing or pharmaceutical industry preferred.

Knowledgeable in the technical fundamentals of safety management and risk assessments and reduction, including machinery safety, ergonomics, and occupational health.

Leadership, project management, and interpersonal skills.

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Excellent problem solving, planning, and organizational skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment while managing multiple assignments with strict deadlines.

Skilled at using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

Note: This position may require the labeling, packaging or movement of hazardous (flammable, corrosive, toxic, etc.) waste within the facility. If so, this employee would be trained. In lieu of HAZWOPER training, the employee will receive training on the requirements of the New York State hazardous waste management regulations pursuant to 6 NYCRR §373-3.2. All employees that have received the above mentioned training upon hire will receive annual refresher training that covers the OSHA HAZWOPER standard and the personnel training requirements of the NYSDEC.

Physical Requirements

Work is primarily light in nature, with exerting up to 50lbs of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Use of fingers to type and / or enter numbers on keyboards, keypads, etc. along with grabbing object(s). Additionally includes, reaching, handling, talking, hearing, bending, stooping, and walking. Involves sitting, standing, and walking most of the time.

Travel

Travel as needed up to 15% of working time to Kedrion locations, which includes overnight travel.

Working Conditions

Primarily inside with well-lighted and well-ventilated areas.

Potential exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens.

Periodic exposure to an environment with a temperature of -40°C for short periods of time.
