Job Description
MAIN FUNCTION:
Provides overall direction and coordination of the planning, organization, administration, periodic review, continued development, funding, and effectiveness of the paramedic program per NYS DOH EMS Program. Functions as Lead educator for EMS courses. Reports to the Chair of Emergency Medicine for Administrative matters and the Program Medical Director for Medical Care matters.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serves as lead instructor for Paramedic Course and maintains regulatory requirements. Arranges for additional guest lectures/content experts as needed.
2. Coordinates all Paramedic in-services/continuing education programs.
3. Participates in New York State EMS activities and keeps current on EMS activities, EMS issues, and legislation pertinent to paramedic/EMS training.
4. Works with Clinical Coordinator, course sponsor and support staff to ensure students are meeting their required experiences to complete the course.
5. Coordinate Paramedic Program Clinicals and train all clinical preceptors
6. Ensure availability of quality learning opportunities for students as they rotate through preceptor sites and EMS agencies. Director is expected to hold these experiences to an appropriate level of quality.
7. Participates in fiscal responsibility for the EMS program which includes but not limited to operating, labor and capital budgets to ensure the program is operating within allocated funds.
8. Coordinate the recruitment, selection, contracting, and evaluation of instructors within the program
9. Maintain program accreditation through COAEMSP as set forth by NYS requirements.
10. Provide guidance and leadership in assessment of program and student learning outcomes within the program.
11. Develop and provide assistance in the development, sequencing, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and educational materials used in the program.
12. Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position and maintains current certifications.
13. EDUCATION:
B.S. degree in Education or medically related field required. M.S. degree in Education preferred. Current Certification as New York State EMT-Paramedic required. Current New York State Certified Instructor Coordinator (CIC) required.
EXPERIENCE:
Three to five years in Emergency Medical Services required. Teaching experience with relevant training and education preferred.
CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:
Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. Additionally, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) instructor status is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Some physical effort required. Lifting of 25lbs frequently, lifting of 40lbs occasionally. Some reaching and stooping. Required to be on feet much of the time.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Maintenance of adequate training inventory required. Excellent interpersonal skills required maintaining good working relationships with Arnot Health personnel and persons outside of the Arnot Health associated with Emergency Medical Systems. Ability to analyze and interpret data.
