POSITION SUMMARY:
To be fully engaged in provide Quality/No Harm, Customer Experiences and Stewardship by assisting licensed personnel in providing direct nursing care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Engagement:
Associate supports engagement through adherence to the I-CARE commitments.
Quality/No Harm:
Uses two patient identifiers when accessing patient information in patient care.
Provides safe and timely transport of patients as needed.
Demonstrates effective telephone etiquette.
Uses and cares for equipment and supplies economically.
Initiates patient set-up and maintains monitor equipment.
Cares for patients in a clean and safe environment.
Performs quality EKG tracing and performs Stat EKGs when requested.
Ensures accurate labeling of specimens.
Application of orthopedic splints and appliances.
Performs wound care/non-sterile dressings.
Sets up and assists for patient care procedures.
Assists with triage process, i.e. vital signs, data collection, etc.
Utilizes Health First computer systems with regard to order entry, order inquiry, and patient documentation.
Provides relief and assistance to HUC as needed.
Customer Experience:
Collects, records and reports accurate patient information.
Delivers basic care to patients as directed.
Responds to call light in a timely manner.
Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner.
Provides care to patients in a clean and safe environment.
Competently performs routine procedures.
Assists other associates to maintain productivity.
Provides service to patients and families with sensitivity and respect for their needs, expectations, age, cultural and individual differences.
Demonstrates effective communication with other members of the health care team and promotes effective team functioning.
Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and flexibility.
May have access to IV solutions, authorized medications, and supplies as needed for patient care responsibilities
Contributes to the patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and HCAHPs scores for department/medical center and/or written compliments by patients/others as well as consistent performance of purposeful hourly rounding and bedside shift report.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must have completed Basic Dysrhythmia course with at least 80% passing grade and completion of 80 clinical hours.
Or current EMT certificate or previous experience as ED Tech or CNA.
Or after completion of first semester in a RN/LPN program.
Current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must have visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform clinical tasks.
Must have corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Must be able to lift, turn, pull, push or ambulate patients/equipment up to 90% of the assigned shift.
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted up to 33% of the assigned shift.
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stoop up to 90% of assigned shift.
Must be able to sit, up to 90% of the assigned shift.
Potential for exposure to biohazardous waste, and known or unknown diseases.
