We are currently seeking a Turbocharger Specialist located in Miramar, Florida. The position provides specialist turbocharger services installed on MaK and Caterpillar Motoren brand medium speed engines installed in Marine, Oil & Gas and Electric Power applications. The selected candidate will provide workshop, field services and technical support to customers for turbochargers installed a range of MaK marine and CM engine products.

What You Will Do:

Performs workshop based hands-on maintenance, servicing, overhauling, repair, and upgrading of Napier and KBB brand turbochargers to Napier and KBB guidelines and specifications.

Performs field services including cartridge and nozzle ring removal and installation, maintenance, servicing, overhauling, repair, upgrading, and performance diagnostics of turbochargers onboard marine vessels, oil & gas, and land-based power plant installations.

Performs precision measurement and calibration of turbocharger parts and components using dial indicators, gauges, micrometers, calipers etc.

Understands Napier and KBB maintenance requirements by operating hours, and service life of rotating components.

Able to perform failure and root cause analysis and damaged components. Able to identify if a turbocharger part or component is damaged, excessively worn and needs to be replaced.

Also required to work as a workshop technician performing service, maintenance, overhauling, and repair of MaK engine components in the workshop, onboard vessels, or at other field service locations. This includes rebuilding cylinder heads, fuel injection pumps, injectors, pistons, liners, connecting rods, water/lube oil pumps.

Ensures that all service tasks and jobs are performed in a safe manner in accordance with Caterpillar EHS requirements.

Ability to travel to job sites.

Prepares professional, well written and detailed service reports and punch lists.

Learns how to perform troubleshooting and diagnosing turbocharger performance issues, breakdowns, failures. Provide accurate advice and guidance to customers.

Learns how to convey issues arising from installation problems to customers in a diplomatic manner.

Learns how to plan and facilitate a service job and to work with no or minimal supervision.

The position requires the ability to manage the completion of work assignments and coordinates work with others.

Degree Requirement: The position typically requires a diploma, maritime qualifications or five years relevant experience in servicing turbochargers. Top Candidates will have turbocharger trainings or certifications.

Engine & Equipment Maintenance: Knowledge of techniques, procedures, and tools used in the maintenance of engine and equipment maintenance; ability to use this knowledge to identify, resolve and prevent issues and maximize their performance.

Level Expert:

Champions the use of emerging tools and technologies for engine and equipment maintenance activities.

Develops engine and equipment maintenance strategy and schedule based on predictive and prescriptive maintenance methodologies that rely on advanced data analysis.

Establishes internal best practices, guidelines, and procedures for performing engine and equipment maintenance activities.

Leads discussions on the performance and ROI of engine and equipment maintenance processes; introduces necessary interventions to improve the efficiency of these processes.

Monitors industry trends related to engine and equipment maintenance and predict their future implications.

Oversees all engine and equipment maintenance and repair activities and provides technical consultancy on applying emerging tools and technologies for maintenance.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems on MaK engines and turbochargers.

Level Extensive Experience:

Evaluates business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution.

Resolves difficult or high-impact equipment and systems problems.

Monitors performance and history; addresses excessive maintenance or repair needs.

Coaches others how to resolve integration or communications problems in multi-vendor environment.

Applies specific techniques for isolating a problem and defining resolution approach.

Uses advanced diagnostic techniques and tools for unusual or performance-related problems.

Standard Operating Procedures: Knowledge of established standard operating procedures (SOP); ability to design, implement and evaluate standard operating procedures affecting daily and strategic business operations in order to increase operational efficiency.

Level Extensive Experience:

Designs a standard operating procedure, detailing steps and activities, within a department; develops procedures, processes, and controls to implement and execute policy requirements.

Optimizes complex SOPs according to changes in organizational procedures.

Monitors the relationship between SOPs and performance improvement (e.g. quality improvement).

Evaluates the benefits and drawbacks of industry-specific SOPs.

Integrates best practices into the design, implementation and evaluation of organizational SOPs.

Evaluates the causes behind deviations from and modifications to existing SOPs.
