Description

Under general supervision, manufactures, installs, repairs and removes traffic signs and markers.

Examples of Duties

Assembles signposts, hangers, and cuts sign blanks for street and traffic signs.

Lays out designs and applies sheeting to traffic sign blanks and markers.

Applies billposters to small billboards.

Installs fixed or portable traffic signs by bolting hangers to existing poles or installs new poles in sidewalks or ground.

Digs holes with air hammers, hydraulic tools, and post-hole augers.

Cements new poles in place and removes discontinued signs.

Loads and unloads materials from and drives sign installation trucks, as required.

Builds signs, hangers, or posts from new or reclaimed materials using metal or woodworking machines or hand tools.

Performs minor maintenance on sign shop equipment.

May perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications (required):

High school graduation or GED.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirements of this position.

Qualifications (preferred):

One (1) year of experience manufacturing and erecting signs.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS

City Employees Retirement System

As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:

• Completion of thirty (30) years of service;

– At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or

– At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.

• In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);

– An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;

• Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
