GENERAL SUMMARY:
Scrubs for cesarean sections and vaginal deliveries and assists the nursing personnel in the care of obstetrical patients (adolescent/adult).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Administers patient care duties under the direction of the registered nurse (i.e., transporting patients, answering lights, assisting with activities).
· Assists the physician during a cesarean section or other surgical procedure that may occur in the Birthing Center by draping patient, passing instruments, tying suture, and the other activities involved with a surgical scrub.
· Assists the physician during a vaginal delivery by setting up tables, draping, passing instruments, etc.
· Assists the RN with clean up of the patient and room following any procedure.
· Checks the crash cart, epidural care, and defibrillator daily.
· Restocks supplies as needed on each shift.
· Reports observations to licensed personnel.
· Initiates emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury).
· Maintains knowledge of equipment set up, maintenance and use (cautery, maternal and fetal monitors, defibrillators, etc.)
· Orders and maintains patient care supplies, equipment and environment.
· Assists with clerical duties (i.e., answering phones, ordering supplies via CRT).
· Effectively assumes job responsibilities of ancillary support during absence.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
· High School or Diploma or GED, required and 18 years of age.
· Completion of recognized course in operating room or 3 years of surgical tech experience.
· Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
· BLS certified by the end of the orientation period (approximately six (6) weeks). Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
