Purpose of Job A sleep technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treat of sleep disorders including in center and out of center sleep testing. Job Functions Collects, analyzes, and integrates patient information prior to patient arrival in order to identify and meet patient-specific needs during sleep testing. Orients the patient to the sleep center, explains the procedure and prepares the patient for testing. Selects appropriate equipment and calibrates for testing to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments, if necessary. Applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards. Performs routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization. Follows procedural protocols [such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), PAP, oxygen titration, etc.] to ensure collection of appropriate data. Performs Polysomnographic data acquisition, identifies, and reports signal abnormalities. Documents routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results. Scores sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines. Scores clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing AASM standards. Generates accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform home sleep equipment preparation and data download. Performs patient education and instruction appropriate for home sleep testing. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of adult and geriatric patients. Performs inter-scorer reliability quality assurance program as indicated. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Education/ Work Experience Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associates degree with an emphasis in Polysomnography OR Successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration associated with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency at all competencies required of a Polysomnographic Technician AND Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered polysomnographic Technologist or equivalent Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Knowledge of routine and complex equipment care and maintenance Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions Ability to respond to study participants procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriate information Ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy Ability to communicate in English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above License/Certification Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider #LI-RR1 Ridgeview Medical Center will not discriminate against or harass any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, citizenship, national origin, age, disability, military service, veteran status, genetic information, union membership, creed, marital status, familial status, sexual orientation, gender identity, status with regards to public assistance, membership in a local human rights commission, or any other category that may be protected by law.
