Overview
Fairview Health Services is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Perianesthesia (PACU) team at University of Minnesota Medical Center West Bank Campus and Masonic Childrens Hospital, located on the West Bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, MN.
We are seeking a hardworking and motivated Registered Nurse to join our PACU team, which includes, nursing assistants, schedulers, instrument technicians, and MDs. The PACU RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned Perianesthesia (pre- and post-op) patients. The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedure, and professional practice guidelines. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.
Schedule:
This PACU nursing position will be working 56 hours every two weeks on the rotating day/evening shift, 8 hour shifts and rotating weekends. Off premise call is required. The position does require the ability to work D/N off-premise call shifts as assigned (staff rotation of weeknights and weekends) and meet unit requirement for call response time.

UMMC West Bank is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Minnesota and in turn has students, residents, fellows placed in this OR daily.
The West Bank has 15 operating rooms, 1 EP Lab, 1 Cath Lab serving an average of 36 cases per day.
We provide innovative surgical suites for adult and pediatric patients and are currently renovating additional ORs to complement the existing 4 larger ORs.
Surgeries in this unit are team based among these specialties: Ortho/Spine/Oral (mainly adults), Peds CV-Hearts/Cardio Thoracic, Peds Neuro/Generals/Urology/Bariatrics, Peds Transplant, Adult Urology, GYN, ENT/Eye/Plastics, Peds Dental and Da Vinci Robotics.

Responsibilities Job Description
As a Perianesthesia RN, you will be responsible for:
Assessing the patients and patient condition according to Perioperative Policy and ASPAN Standards, delivering and evaluating nursing care for all assigned patient population(s) who are anticipating and recovering from procedure(s) and anesthesia.
Coordinating care with members of the health care team and delegating responsibilities to others as appropriate.
Demonstrating ability to deliver care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
Evaluating care, adapting interventions and prioritizing care based on patient assessments, using resources to respond to emergency situations.
Some specific duties include pre-admission phone calls, admissions day of surgery, monitoring and continuously assessing patients following procedure until ready for transfer to the floor-as well as Phase 2 care to include intensive patient education that assures readiness for discharge to home.
Demonstrating critical care skills needed to include airway and hemodynamic management, pain management, and excellent assessment skills for patients in altered states of consciousness.
Evaluating patient responses to interventions including; administration of medication, responses to anesthesia, and risks related to surgical procedures.
Knowledge of anesthetic agents, techniques, actions and interactions.
Ability to recognize and treat arrhythmia and respond to hemodynamic changes.
Cultivates a culture of improvement, efficiency and innovative thinking.
The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedure, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
MN RN License.
A minimum of two years current RN experience in Adult and/or Pediatric Critical Care is required. NICU-only experience is not applicable to minimum criteria.
BLS certification at time of hire.
ACLS and PALS certification required within 6 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications:
3 years; experience as RN in PACU, ICU, ED or other Critical Care areas.
Hospital-based Adult and or Pediatric PACU experience.
BSN preferred.
Certification in a related specialty is highly desired.
