Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Outpatient Services Crosby, MN Nursing Full Time, 8-hour Day Shift FTE: 1.0 FTE (80 hours per pay period) Weekend Requirements: No weekends Posted 10/07/2024 Req # 13564 POSITION SUMMARY The Oncology Coordinator is a registered nurse who coordinates the care of cancer patients. Coordination of care begins with the patient at diagnosis and remains throughout the entire diagnostic and treatment process, survivorship and/or end of life. The Oncology Coordinator is responsible for participating in the plan of care through facilitation of provider orders, follow up on test results and promoting improved communication with the Oncology team. They are the main liaison for oral chemotherapy communication including patient symptom reporting and financial resources specific to oral chemotherapy. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Associates degree in nursing required. Bachelors degree of science/art in nursing preferred. Bachelors degree of science/art in nursing required within 3-5 years. Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) required. Two years clinical experience in oncology care required. License/Certificates: Current Minnesota RN license. American Heart Association BLS certification within 30 days of hire. American Heart Association ACLS required within 4 months of hire. Completion of Chemotherapy Certification Course (Cancer Chemo Provider). Special Skills and Aptitudes: Knowledge and skills to implement nursing theory. Demonstrates mature judgment, initiative and proficiency in nursing skills. Effective teaching ability and ability to assess and set learning objectives for orientees and current employees. Strong knowledge regarding the diagnosis and treatment of oncology including but not limited to NCCN guidelines and best practice. Effective communication and professional and positive interpersonal skills. Demonstrates leadership qualities and organizational abilities. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES RN Oncology Coordinator: Communicate with providers and other members of the oncology team regarding treatment plan including changes based on provider assessments, education of treatment plan and coordination of appointments/services. Complete order entry as directed by providers Participate in result review as directed by Oncology providers and communicate when deemed appropriate with patients and families Monitor and manage medication refill requests for the Ambulatory patient population. Involve patients in decisions regarding their care. Serve as a liaison between providers and the Oncology department to ensure timely and quality care delivery. Guide care delivery by all care providers and assures adherence to treatment plan. Serve as a patient advocate and will be available to respond to patient questions or refer to appropriate resources. Refer to appropriate internal resources as needed. Create and adjusts treatment and medication calendars Participate in the measurement and evaluation of care processes to identify variations and opportunities for improvement. Act as a clinical resource for patient/families, interdisciplinary teams, and direct care providers. Maintain the ability to both take on the role of the Oncology RN as well as support the roles of the Systems Coordinator and the Navigation Coordinator. RN: Exercise concern for the patients welfare, maintain knowledge of the patients condition, administer medication and perform treatment while practicing high ethical standards. Responsible for direct and indirect care of patients assigned to him/her under the guidance of nursing leadership, maintain accurate and complete records of nursing assessment and care, and counsel of the client and family in meeting nursing related needs. Remain up to date on new nursing skills and technology while utilizing the nursing process (observation, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in the delivery of care. Perform duties in accordance with physicians orders, the Medical Ce ters policies, methods, and techniques, and in coordinating with other departments and Medical Center personnel.
