The Claim Consultant should have past job experience which would translate well into the handling of First Party Commercial Property and Inland Marine claims including the use, retention and orchestration of Independent Adjusters (IAs) and experts as may be necessary. Coverage may be Primary or Excess and/or Quota Share. Experience with one or more of the following preferred:
Builder’s Risk, Contractor’s Equipment, Habitational, Binding Brokerage, Transportation, Art and Technology Equipment.
The Claim Consultant will handle claims of varying degrees of complexity with some six figure exposures. Must be able to review and interpret policy coverage and draft coverage letters in a rapid- paced environment.
Claim File Management
Plan, recommend, reserve and execute file strategies including investigation, valuation, disposition and settlement of assigned claims, in a manner consistent with corporate claim settlement policies and procedures, and statutory, regulatory and ethics requirements.
Properly assess the exposure of assigned claims. Plan and organize, establish priorities, anticipate issues, determine realistic completion dates, know and communicate the status of assignments, appropriately manage vendors.
Develop advanced functional knowledge to appropriately interpret and apply insurance coverage. Develop technical and jurisdictional expertise.
Maintain current knowledge of claim loss cost management initiatives, and utilize them appropriately and in a manner consistent with company practices and procedures.
Identify and properly handle mitigation, subrogation, and other recovery opportunities.
Report disposition of claims to partners and/or management as required.

Obtain first-hand customer information; use it for improvements in products and services.

Utilize verbal and numerical critical thinking skills to gather information, apply sound reasoning and draw appropriate conclusions; make sound decisions based upon mixture of analysis, wisdom experience and judgment.
Accurately resolve complex coverage and compensability issues.
Proven ability to investigate, evaluate and negotiate highly complex claims to appropriate disposition.
Demonstrates superior analytical and critical thinking skills; excellent time management abilities.
Possess the advanced technical knowledge to properly reserve highly complex claims.
Properly apply statutory laws and regulations of applicable jurisdiction.
Evidenced advanced expertise to utilize claim management practices to effectively manage loss costs.
Expertly contribute to loss cost management by recognizing potential for Subrogation, Salvage and Special Investigation and use of The Hartford’s previously negotiated and/or internal resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:
College degree and/or equivalent work experience required
Minimum 3 years of experience handling First Party Property and/or Inland Marine claims
Must be familiar with Department of Insurance claim handling requirements in various jurisdictions.
Consistent high level of performance and achievement over career span
State required adjusting licenses
AIC, CCP or CPCU designation preferred
Experience in handling business income losses
Disciplined time management and organizational skills and ability to function in a self-reliant manner
Must have MS Office proficiency
Xactimate experience preferred
Commercial experience preferred
Excess & Surplus lines experience preferred
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, San Antonio, TX, Lake Mary, FL, Phoenix, AZ, Naperville, IL) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$80,080 – $120,120
