Elections Clerk (PT)
Kaufman County
Assist in the process of Federal, State, and local elections pursuant to the Texas Election Code. This process involves, but is not limited to, assisting with preparing ballot formats, ordering, and furnishing election equipment and supplies, assisting with preparing election returns for canvassing, and filing all reports for the Secretary of State.

## ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:(The following duties representthe principal job duties; however, they are not all-inclusive.)
– Daily processes data entry and scans voters registration applications using the voter registration system database.
– Answers and routes telephone calls.
– Greets and assists visitors and the public.
– Handles phone calls concerning the departments website, archives election results, voter ballot styles and general inquiries.
– Performs testing of ballots and equipment.
– Assists in the programming of equipment to be used in an election.
– Assists in the entry and processing of ballot by mail applications.
– Conducts inventory.
– Prepares election kits and ballot boxes.
– Orders and maintains all supplies required.
– Runs, balances, and prepares all necessary reports as assigned.
– Assists in conducting election training.
– Keeps up to date with legislative changes.
– Assists in the coordination of polling locations and staff.
– Assists in coordinating, distributing, delivering, and returning voting equipment.
– Provides technical assistance to election polling sites as needed.
– Assists in conducting manual recounts of certain precincts as requested by the Secretary of State.
– Reports results of statewide elections to the Secretary of State Elections Division.
– Performs other special assignments, research, projects, or tasks assigned by the Administrator.
– Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the department.
– Regular job attendance and timeliness is required.

# Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the qualifying knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in the position.
– Minimum requirements: High school diploma or GED certification
– Desired requirements: Some College Education
– Bilingual English/Spanish language preferred.
– Experience in operating optical scan electronic vote tabulation equipment in conjunction with an election reporting system, preferred.

## Knowledge of:
– Texas Election Code.
– Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Skills and Abilities to:
– Read, analyze, and interpret general business and professional manuals or governmental regulations.
– Communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
– Read and interpret state manuals and mandates.
– Manage multiple tasks and track progress of each.
– Operate basic office equipment including computers, telephones, copier, fax, printers, calculators, and vote tabulator equipment.

# PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an e ployee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for long periods of time, typing for extended periods, regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is sometimes required to climb, stoop, kneel or crouch. Heavy lifting/moving up to 50 pounds is required. The ability to see and distinguish color, speak clearly, and hear is necessary for job performance.
# WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Workspace is in a climate-controlled and well lighted area. Occasional warehouse work may be required. The warehouse is not climate controlled. The dress code for this office is business attire.
# SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Cannot exceed 29 hours or more. Working on Saturday and Sunday and some holidays is mandatory to perform some functions in accordance with Texas Election Code provisions. Must have reliable transportation, as travel is necessary to perform essential functions of the job. May not be a candidate for public office or an office of a political party or hold a public office or a position in a political party.
