POSITION SUMMARY
Enforces federal and state laws and local ordinances. Performs a variety of duties relative to assigned area of
responsibility such as identifying and apprehending criminal violators; ensuring the free flow of traffic;
executing warrants of arrest and assisting in servicing warrants; presenting crime prevention programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responds to radio calls for all types of police services.
Patrols assigned geographic area to identify and deter criminal activity, aids citizens needing
assistance, and arrest violators of the laws.
Issues citations and investigates traffic accidents.
Testifies in legal proceedings.
Conducts investigations of criminal offenses, missing persons, and all public safety incidents.
Responsible for preparing written reports as required by specific assignment.
Intervenes and mediates in crisis situations and all types of disputes.
Instructs citizens, businesses, school, and civic organizations about methods and techniques that may
help prevent citizens from becoming victims of crime.
Develops and implements community-based policing strategies and programs.
Executes misdemeanor and felony warrants of arrest.
May serve as Court Bailiff for Municipal Court.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Operates assigned police vehicles in a safe manner to avoid accidents.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Skills in mediation and self-defense techniques.
Ability to read, interpret, learn and apply laws, regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
Knowledge of human behavior and motivation.
Ability to communicate effectively with all types of individuals.
Ability to remain calm and decisive under extreme stress.
Ability to distinguish between red, yellow, and green in order to accurately describe suspects and
vehicles and to identify traffic lights and sign colors.
Ability to pass a drug screen.
Ability to pass a background investigation.
May require other skills, knowledge and abilities depending on assigned area of responsibility.
Position Title: Police Officer FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Departments: Police Department Hiring Range: $62,022-$69,735
Reports To: Police Chief
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Be a U.S. citizen.
Valid State of Texas Drivers License (Class C) required.
Texas Commission on Law enforcement Officer Standards and Education License required.
High School Diploma or GED and 12 hours of college, or 2 years of active military service with an
honorable discharge (applies to only non-certified applicants).
Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of the written examination.
Fingerprinted and subjected to a search of records to disclose a criminal record
Driving record in compliance with City of Krum driving policy.???????No more than one (1) motor vehicle accident and no more than two (2) traffic convictions on theirDepartment of Public Safety driving record during the preceding thirty-six (36) months.o No conviction of Driving While Intoxicated or Driving Under the Influence of Drugs in their lifetime.
Be able to identify license plate numbers of automobiles at six (6) car lengths while traveling 60 mph.
This requires vision correctable to 20/20 binocular for all hours of the day including day, evening,
and night.
Be able to successfully pass a validated physical ability test.
Be able to successfully pass a background investigation to include a polygraph examination.
Be able to successfully pass a post-offer physical examination, written examination, psychological
examination and a drug screen if requested.
Meet all required TCLEOSE requirements to be licensed as a police officer.
