Summary This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Navajo Region in Chinle, Arizona. Incumbent provides a variety of general equipment operator leader duties maintaining BIA system roads, bridges, transit and transportation facilities. Responsibilities Lead others by assisting, providing instructions, training, or answering questions regarding work procedures and directives. Operates machinery to repair and restoration of earth roads, graveled roads, paved roads, and bridges. Operates an assortment of power and pneumatic tools including diesel-powered air compressor, and air powered tools. Performs routine preventative maintenance and emergency service on equipment. Attend meetings and training as required. Strictly adheres to the Agency Safety Program, Continuity of Operations Plan and Spill Prevention and Counter Measures Plan. Keep field records on equipment maintenance and operation. Performs a variety of general labor duties in the preservation, repair and restoration of earth roads, graveled roads, paved roads, and bridges. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations (X-118C, Qualification Standard Handbook) will be used in determining applicants qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through the experience shown in your written resume and your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision. Under provision of the Civil Service Reform Act, first-time supervisors are required to serve a one year supervisory probationary period before their appointment becomes final. Those who do not satisfactorily complete this probationary period will be returned to positions of no lower grade and pay than those they occupied before assuming their supervisory assignment.
