JOB REQUIREMENTS: Duties and Responsibilities 1. Serves as the
universitys lead attorney in several assigned areas of legal
expertise. Advises leadership on a wide range of legal, policy and
strategic issues, including those that are highly complex and novel.
Provides legal advice (written and oral) and counsel to university
personnel on a wide range of legal and business (e.g., university
activities and policy, etc.) matters. Conducts thorough legal research
and fact gathering to effectively analyze legal risks, opportunities,
and options Implements changes as appropriate related to the
organizations goals, mission, and existing circumstances and how those
may affect the overall university. Provides oversight, advice, review,
negotiation and revision for contracts, agreements, regulatory filings,
and other university documents with legal implications (e.g., policies,
procedures, bylaws, etc.). Drafts, reviews, and recommends approval of
university policies. 2. Supports the Vice President General Counsel in
strategic planning for the OGC, Corporate Engagement and Public Affairs
units with an emphasis on finding continuous improvements. Oversees
operational processes and workflows for the OGC, keeping the Vice
President informed of key matters. Plans, organizes, and tracks
strategic OGC projects to ensure they are on-time, on-budget, and
achieve their objectives. Staffs or delegates to members of the OGC
various university working teams, steering committees and task forces as
needed. 3. Directs annual and ongoing budgeting activities for the
Office of General Counsel, Corporate Engagement, and Public Affairs. 4.
Represents the university in dealing with third parties, to include
direct supervision and management of outside counsel. Approves use of
outside counsel, conflict waivers and maintains outside counsel
guidelines. Ensures effective utilization of university resources. 5.
Functions in the place of and assumes the duties of the Vice President
when and as needed. 6. Assists in the investigation and preparation for
litigation matters in cooperation with OGC colleagues and other internal
parties and external counsel. Provides legal representation for the
university and its employees in in various university business matters
before federal and state administrative agencies. 7. Creates and
delivers presentations, training, and support materials to inform and
educate university employees and leaders on current and emerging legal
issues. Prepares reports and audits for General Counsel approval,
including quarterly legal reports, annual legal operations reports and
annual legal audit response. 8. Performs all other duties and
responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Position Overview The Deputy
General Counsel works closely with the Vice President General Counsel to
oversee, plan, organize and direct the legal work of the Office of
General Counsel (OGC). Supports the Vice President General Counsel in
strategic planning and budget management for the OGC, Corporate
Engagement and Public Affairs units with an emphasis on finding
continuous improvements in the way the OGC supports the University.
Provide legal advice and counsel to a broad group of university leaders
and stakeholders covering a wide range of complex university legal
