Principal Experience Designer

Principal Experience Designer needed by Verizon in Basking Ridge, NJ (hybrid role, may work from home): Lead and manage a cross-disciplinary experience design team, manage project needs, own design deliverables for a complete product ecosystem, and provide expertise in IoT and hardware interaction design; manage, plan, and facilitate design activities, collaborate with cross-functional partners to identify design problems and opportunities, and lead group work to guide design solutions; oversee the product design, development and testing to meet business goals, team KPIs, user needs, and accessibility standards; articulate user, business, and/or technical limitations during detailed design critiques or presentations; establish best practices, oversee the management of organized working files and project directories, maintain fluent knowledge of User Interface and industrial design standards, facilitate and guide the evolution of design systems and product ecosystems; lead the collaboration with research teams to test and collect research data, evaluate whether the product is fit for launch, research competitive products, industry trends and topics, analyze and cross check various data sets to confirm solution plan; mentor and coach team members, inspire designers, lead and manage the recruiting, onboarding, and mentorship process, facilitate activities and training methods, identify, escalate, and help remove impediments that hinder team productivity; set the agenda to facilitate team meetings and activities, make decisions and determine next steps, stay updated on business strategy and organizational structure to guide the creation of design solutions; understand interpersonal nuances, organizational politics, and consider other perspectives to adapt an approach or point of view, determine the format of presentations to construct and present project approaches, activity materials, and plans; plan and facilitate iteration and critique sessions to improve solution quality, provide detailed team plan for design exploration, prototyping, and concept refinement, evaluate user experience journeys and provide directional input; define success criteria and KPIs, influence stakeholders and leadership, identify opportunities to explore user context to shape user insights gathering activities in collaboration with the marketing research team. REQUIRES Masters or foreign equivalent degree in Industrial or Product Design, Interaction Design, Interactive Telecommunications, Human Machine/Computer Interaction, or a related field, and 4 years of experience in the job offered or as a User Experience Designer, Industrial Designer, or in a related/similar position. Experience therein to include 4 years in design research (including qualitative or quantitative research, usability or user testing, product competitor analysis, workshop facilitation, user journey mapping, and research analysis); design thinking (including human centered design or universal design, Lean or Agile methodology, UX strategy or UX evangelism, and managing design deliverables using Microsoft Office or Google Suite); and interaction design or Human Machine Interaction (including Responsive UI design or UI wireframing, design patterns, interactive audio or multi-sensory design, animation or motion design, user interface or control panel prototyping, using digital product design software, Hypertext markup programming language, and Video editing software). •In lieu of a Master’s degree and 4 years of experience, employers will accept a Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in the fields stated above and 6 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the above. •Experience therein to include 3 years in industrial design (including packaging design or unboxing experience design, 3D form or ergonomic design, product labeling, tangible model making or physical prototyping, using 3D parametric modeling software, handcrafting, and electronics prototyping software); visual design (including graphic design, data visualization, branding or style sheet, and illustrating using 2D graphics editing software); Content Strategy (including information architecture); and gathering data using knowledge of hardware or IoT experience design, interactive technology, and network systems. •Also requires a detailed design portfolio demonstrating the skills and tools/methodologies listed above. •Hybrid role, ability to work from home.
