DEPCOM Power, a Koch Engineered Solutions company, is looking for a Project Development Engineer. This role will ideally be based out of DEPCOMs Bedminster, NJ, Scottsdale, AZ or Pleasanton, CA office. We are seeking a candidate with a strong interest in the energy sector, and a desire to make an impact by designing clean-energy power plants for improved sustainability. This position reports directly to the Manager of Project Development Engineering as a valuable member of the Engineering and Technology Department, servicing internal customers from business development departments of all DEPCOMs Business Units including Solar (PV), Energy Storage, and Repowering services.

This role involves up to 25% travel to support Business Development and Coordination between DEPCOM Powers teams. This role is not eligible for VISA sponsorship.


Our Team

The Project Development Engineering Team is a high functioning team that reports into DEPCOMs Systems Engineering group. The PDE Team is responsible for the up-front diligence, design, and optimizations of Solar projects and services.


What You Will Do

  • Provide technical support to the Business Development Team within DEPCOM Power, providing a best in class, substantiated LCOE design package for client
  • Support Bidding & Estimating for new opportunities
  • Site Plan Approval from the client, prior to the turnover of the Project Operations Team
  • Site Design Parameters
  • Project specific non-standards
  • P(50) production estimates (energy) for all opportunities
  • Contract Models used for performance testing
  • Support Project Operations Team to update as-built conditions of overall site plan and major equipment
  • Work with Business Development to develop and prepare the technical requirements of a turn-key deliverables package, including the overall site plan, production estimate, and proposal inclusions/exclusions
  • Work with the industry standard software, such as PVSyst, to estimate energy production reports
  • Review RFP documents, studies, and site plans to craft the list of non-standard items that should be included in the proposal
  • Prepare presentations to support DEPCOMs optimized design to the customer, showcasing the optimized solution and benefits it brings to the customers bottom line
  • Support the Project Development Engineering team by performing evaluations and sensitivities around different technologies (cost/benefit analyses)
  • Prepare Project Risk and Opportunity Registry details for supporting the transition from the Bidding/Estimating to Project Operations to ensure a seamless handoff between Development and execution
  • Support customer calls, RFIs, and technical due diligence during the bid cycle of a project
  • Attend conferences and presentations on the latest trends and technology in PV, Energy Storage, and Repowering services


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Experience in PV Design and Engineering in the utility scale PV industry
  • Experience working with teams to solve problems collaboratively and present solutions to gain interest
  • Comprehend technical drawings: major components, one-line diagrams, site layouts, equipment arrangements, etc.


What Will Put You Ahead

  • Engineering degree from an ABET accredited university
  • Experience with Battery Energy Storage System Design and Engineering
  • Official certifications and/or training in specific relevant software (i.e. PVSyst, AutoCAD, or other modeling software)
  • Excel and/or Python programming and macros for automation and efficiency
  • Competency of Financial Cash Flows (specifically related to utility scale PV)
  • Comprehension of Scope of Work documents
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or EIT candidate, ultimately seeking Professional Engineering License

For this role, we anticipate paying $100,000 – $120,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
