Police Chief
CITY OF PLEASANTVILLE
PRIMARY DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Serve as the chief administrative officer of the Police Department and is the final departmental authority in all matters of personnel.
– Enforces all ordinances of the Pleasantville Code of Ordinances.
– Develop and administer goals, objectives, and procedures for the police department.
– Analyze and assess programs, policies, and operational needs and make appropriate adjustments.
– Identify and respond to sensitive community and organizational issues, concerns, and needs.
– Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff; implement progressive discipline when necessary.
– Prepares and presents the Police Departments annual budget and monitors and controls all budgetary expenditures.
– Interpret, apply, and make decisions in accordance with applicable federal, state and local policies, laws, and regulations.
– Effectively use and qualify with law enforcement tools and weapons including firearms, defensive tactics, and other safety equipment.
– Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform the assigned duties.
– Effectively present information and respond to questions and concerns of the general public.
– Ability to recruit and retain your own staff.
– Due to the structure of the Pleasantville Police Department, the Chief of Police will, at times, cover shifts for officers who are on vacation, in training, or on sick leave.
