The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Homes is to primarily serve the Veterans population of Louisiana through the provision of medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans with the ultimate goal of returning the veterans to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity.
Summary of Position
On a daily basis, cleans, mops, disinfects, dusts and sweeps assigned areas. Reports deficiencies such as paint peeling, water leaks in faucets/toilets, bugs in light covers, broken equipment, etc.
Cleans contaminated trash bins, contaminated trash, decontaminates patient rooms, rest rooms and isolation rooms which contain biohazard wastes such as blood, urine, feces, and used needles. Disposes of infectious waste when necessary and documents that proper procedures were followed.
Strips, buffs, waxes, and disinfects floors to an assigned area on a regular basis using required industrial machinery.
This position is located at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Home in Monroe, LA.
The position will be filled by a probation appointment or promotion of a permanent state employee.
This position includes a premium pay of $1.00 per hour for each hour physically worked.
Note regarding the advertised pay range: The advertised maximum amount listed is the maximum salary a person can make while in this title/level over their career and not the maximum amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Six months of experience in custodial, housekeeping, groundskeeping, or food service work.

Cleans bathrooms, offices, hallways, and any other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing.
Empties and decontaminates trash containers.
Moves, rearranges, and dusts furniture and fixtures.
Mixes or blends cleaning solutions to proper concentrations as necessary for various tasks.
Strips, cleans, and polishes floors using industrial-grade machines.
Follows procedures for disposing of infectious waste.
Maintains custodial equipment; reports needs for minor building and/or equipment repairs to a higher-level custodian.
Sets up tables, chairs, and other furniture for special meetings, banquets, or other occasions as assigned.
Washes blinds, windows, and walls with prescribed solutions.
Operates wet/dry vacuum for cleaning and shampooing carpeted areas.
Strips, decontaminates, and makes beds for patients, residents, students, etc.
May perform grounds work by picking up trash, watering plants, light mowing, weed trimming, etc.
