NOTE: THIS POSITION CAN BE HIRED AT THE 1 OR 2 LEVEL DEPENDING UPON EXPERIENCE.
NOTE: LOUISIANA TECH UNIVERSITY HAS SPECIAL ENTRANCE RATES (SER) IN PLACE FOR OUR POLICE OFFICER 1/2 POSITIONS. THE STARTING HOURLY RATE IS 18.58/HOUR FOR POLICE OFFICER 1. THE STARTING HOURLY RATE IS $19.88/HOUR FOR POLICE OFFICER 2.
This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled at the Police Officer 1 or the Police Officer 2 level depending on experience of the selected applicant. If filled at the Police Office 1 level, employee will train for one year in Police Officer 1 and will be eligible to move to Police Officer 2 if all qualifications and standards by the department have been met.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
Applicants must have a Civil Service test score for the 2100-PSE (Protective Services Exam) in order to be considered for this vacancy. If you do not have a score prior to applying to this posting, it may result in your application not being considered.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
For Police Officer 1: No experience or training is required.
For Police Officer 2: One year of experience in law enforcement work.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for the year of experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have eighteenth birthday at time of application.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
May be required to possess a valid Louisiana drivers license at time of appointment.
May be required to complete a Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) course.
For some positions, evidence of POST certification must be submitted at the time of the application.
May be required to qualify annually with a firearm.
For some positions, applicant must be eligible for bond.
NOTE:
All classified jobs in State service with police officer and wildlife enforcement titles qualify as law enforcement. Jobs outside State service that will qualify as law enforcement are those performed while commissioned with the power of arrest. Military police in the armed services are law enforcement; security/guard duty is NOT qualifying.

Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:

POLICE OFFICER 1
Provides foot or mobile security patrol and enforces parking regulations.
Responds to emergencies and renders assistance as required.
Prepares reports on activities.
Provides crowd and traffic control at special events; may be required to intervene in situations utilizing force if necessary to make an arrest, to restore order, prevent interference with normal operations or to protect persons or property.
POLICE OFFICER 2
Protects lives and property through active foot patrols and mobile patrols, enforcing laws, and investigating crimes.
Provides first aid and emergency services.
Investigates accidents, enforces parking and traffic regulations, and campus regulations.
Conducts crime prevention and security programs, guard service, and directs traffic.
Maintains logs of radio, telephone, and teletype activities and monitors alarm systems and other police radio frequencies.
Operates police network computers and dispatches police officers in response to calls when necessary.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Police Officer 3 by the absence of lead worker responsibility or by routine involvement in specialized assignments involving complex police operations.
