Position Summary
The role of the Fabrication Specialist is to assist and support the plants daily production activities on assigned shifts for a USDA protein processing facility. In addition, this position will support all production activities of the plant by maximizing stewardship, safety, quality, and productivity. Supports the communication of production goals and objectives, as well as results to effectively maintain a high standard of productivity.
Essential Functions
– Assists in the setup of all cutting tables, trim area, wizard knife areas, packaging, scaling, sealing areas and box house to ensure safe, quality, and efficient operation.
– Supports production and packaging in regard to specific daily tasks.
– Maintain organization and good housekeeping in the production area.
– Report any deficiencies to the maintenance department immediately.
– Perform all cuts for the highest attainable red meat yield.
– Ensures that proper product is being produced according to schedule and consistently monitors process to ensure that quality and yield standards are met.
– Conducts inspections, constantly monitors work area for cleanliness and ensures that product contamination is kept to a minimum.
– Organizes the workflow in the processing and packaging departments.
– Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring Food Safety / Quality Assurance (QA) standards are met.
– Promote effective and comprehensive departmental operations.
– Develop a strategy to manufacture all SKUs at or above the designed standards.
– Work to improve efficiencies through further development of LEAN type manufacturing policies.
– Meets performance metrics which track productivity, yield, labor efficiencies, quality, and inventory turnover. Development KPI and track performance for production department.
– Work with maintenance to manage the preventative maintenance program for the production areas.
– Executes daily production schedules.
– Keep all tools and equipment in good working order.
– Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures, and machinery
Working knowledge of the entire Fabrication process.
Must be able to perform repetitive functions.
Must adhere to all company policies and regulatory guidelines.
Must be able to accept direction from Organization/Department leadership.
Must be able to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Must be able to communicate with co-workers and supervisor.
Must be able to use knives, scales, and other cutting tools as necessary.
Ability to coach and develop others into becoming better employees.
