## Summary

Repairs and overhauls municipal vehicles by performing the following duties.

## Essential Duties and Responsibilities

– Examines vehicle to discern the nature and extent of damage or malfunction.
– Plans work procedure.
– Raises vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle.
– Removes unit such as engine, transmission, or differential.
– Disassembles unit and inspects parts for wear.
– Repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings.
– Overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.
– Rebuilds parts such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks.
– Rewires ignition system, lights, and instrument panel.
– Replace and adjusts brakes, aligns front end, repairs or replaces shock absorbers, and solders leaks in radiator.
– Mends damaged body and fenders by hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken parts.
– Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.
– Oversees emergency equipment installation and operation maintenance on emergency vehicles.
– Other duties may be assigned.Supervisory Responsibilities:
– This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

## Education and/or Experience

Associates degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

## Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

A valid Class B (CDL) Drivers License with a clean driving record is required for this position. Driving is a requirement of this position.
