E020 Survey Technician I, II, or III

Performs complex surveying work of a survey crew member; performing necessary calculations to obtain field survey data and/or performing specialized surveying work under supervision of a Registered Professional Land Surveyor or licensed Professional Engineer. Work requires travel and may require contact with governmental and/or private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Assists in monitoring work performance of contracted surveyors.Conducts GPS research and development surveys.Conducts technical geodetic and satellite surveys, which require the use of special high-accuracy techniques for mappingprojects and related engineering functions.Conducts trigonometric and conventional leveling surveys to determine elevations.Coordinates with and assists other sections as requested.Coordinates work for photogrammetry and aerial mapping surveys.Ensures safety equipment and traffic control devices are set up correctly.Maintains complex electronic equipment.Meets with property owners and utility companies to brief them on procedures when surveying near or on their property.Obtains, processes, and analyzes raw field survey data collected from electronic survey equipment and/or GPS.Secures maps, plans and other information for survey projects.Takes field notes, verifies accuracy of field notes, performs necessary calculations, draws plots and documents work inthe field diary.Traverses horizontal and vertical control points between GPS control points.Assists in performing backup and retrieval of GPS data and distributes to internal and external customers.Assists in planning and scheduling surveying projects.Determines, coordinates, and sets benchmarks or locates those set by previous surveys.Assists in moving equipment, barricades and traffic control devices.Measures distances.Operates survey instruments such as level, transit, theodolite, electronic distance meter, total survey station and datacollector.Performs deed research.Performs drafting and/or design work.Reads survey maps and construction plans.Reviews survey job assignments, coordinates with other sections or district/contracted survey parties and monitors surveyprojects to ensure compliance with project specifications.Selects instruments and equipment needed for the day.Shoots lines and grades.Uses a variety of surveying software and related hardware.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
