HOURS: Mon. 3:00pm-8:00pm, Tues and Wed. 9:30am-2:30pm, Sat. 1:00pm-6:00pm
COMPENSATION: $18.085/hour

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of the Library Manager, this position performs duties related to the operations of the circulation desk, helping patrons with materials and basic troubleshooting tasks, and managing both consortium and interlibrary loans (ILL).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Attend to the circulation desk, including: answer phones; assist patrons with materials, computer help, etc.; process interlibrary loans (ILL), and other essential circulation tasks.
– Shelve, straighten, organize, and display library materials in an efficient manner.
– Manage consortium and interlibrary loans through the full process. Assist patrons with placing holds on materials through appropriate systems; track, receive, ship, and process materials for said loans; and communicate with coworkers, other library staff, and patrons regarding loans.
– Record, track, and report necessary information for the successful operation of the Library to the Library Manager and other entities as required.
– Maintain knowledge of upcoming programs, events, and services, and communicate this information to patrons.
– Manage study room access, including: patron sign in; communicating status of room reservations; and advising patrons of room availability and readiness.
– Maintain sufficient supply of informational fliers, brochures, etc. at the front desk.
– Prepare, process, and deliver communications, mail, and packages to the post offices as needed.
– Provide the highest level of professional, effective, and friendly customer service to patrons and coworkers.
– Communicate in a professional, courteous, and tactful way with all people.
– Maintain the library space, ensuring an orderly, organized, and clean facility throughout the day, including the circulation desk and adjoining supply closet. This includes: shelving; emptying recycle and refuse containers; picking up trash; moving recycling bins to the curb weekly; collecting discarded materials; straightening displays; and other tasks necessary to ensure an attractive, functional, and inviting atmosphere.
– Problem solve for patrons effectively, identifying appropriate staff or resources to address their needs, and directing them to those team members or resources personally to ensure effective customer service.
– Assist in opening and closing procedures for the Library.
– Answer phones, assisting patrons and staff with questions, and directing calls to the appropriate people.
– Perform and meet expectations set in the Core Duties document along with all other members of the Roanoke Public Library Staff.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Regular and punctual attendance is required.
– Assist with special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
– Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills. Ability to communicate and follow instructions, orally and written, in the English language.
– Strong computer skills, including Intermediate-level knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
– Knowledge of, or ability to learn and use successfully, automated library systems and databases.
– Ability to operate various types of office equipment, including phones, fax, computer, calculator, copier, etc.
– Ability to work well under pressure; prioritize effectively; exhibit appropriate decision making; and perform successfully in a dynamic, changing environment with professionalism, flexibility, and adaptability.
– Ability to work effectively in a team environment, and treat co-workers, vendors, and patrons with professionalism, courtesy, and respect. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality n all aspects of the job.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
– High School Diploma or GED required.
– Previous library experience preferred (paid or volunteer).
– Must have valid Texas Drivers license prior to employment.
– Must pass a pre-employment screening, background check and employment eligibility verifications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The essential functions of this position are performed primarily in an indoor environment and in a seated position.Position requires frequent sitting, repetitive motions, lifting of negligible weights, fine dexterity and the ability toclearly see and hear. Occasional pushing, pulling, bending, carrying, lifting up to fifty (50) pounds and kneeling may berequired for some duties. Must be able to use various office equipment, including but not limited to, computers,audio/visual technology, telephones, fax machines, printers, copiers, etc.
