Description
The City of Roanoke is excited to announce an opportunity for a Finance Intern! The successful candidate for this position should be pursuing a Masters degree in Finance, Public Administration, or a related field.
HOURS: a minimum of 16-20 hours per week to be worked Mon. – Fri. Flexibility available.
COMPENSATION: $16.00 – 20.00/hour, DOQ
official range: $13.800 – 20.010/hr
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Work with assigned personnel in the Citys Finance Department in a variety of functions and work areas, including, but not limited to: budget, accounting, payroll, utility billing, tax revenue analysis, etc.
– Develop reports on assignments in conjunction with department staff.
– Research, organize, and analyze data for compilation into various reports.
– Assist department staff with special projects, preparation of materials, analysis of findings, and presentation of findings to department staff and/or other City representatives.
– Work directly with other members of City staff on various projects.
– At or near completion of the program, present to Finance Department leadership an evaluation of the internship, including a synopsis of what was learned, feedback, and suggestions for improvement.
– Communicate professionally, promptly, effectively, and courteously with fellow employees and the public in writing, in person, and on the telephone.
– Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
– Ability to plan, organize, multitask and prioritize work tasks for efficient and accurate completion; work well under pressure; and exhibit appropriate decision making.
– Ability to utilize strong attention to detail; exhibit professional judgement through initiative and creative problem solving; and effective organization skills.
– Ability to accurately record, file and maintain records based on required retention schedules.
– Ability to work effectively in a team environment, and treat employees, co-workers, and customers with professionalism, courtesy, and respect.
– Ability to operate various types of office equipment including copiers, scanners, fax machines, etc.
– Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
– Possess basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Google Workspace knowledge preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
– Bachelors degree required.
– Be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program at a college/university in a finance, accounting, public administration, or related degree plan.
– Must have valid Texas Drivers license prior to employment.
– Must pass a pre-employment screening, background check and employment eligibility verification.
– Must be able to participate in 16-20 hours/week Monday – Friday for a minimum of ten (10) weeks. Must be flexible to participate in activities occasionally scheduled in the evenings or on weekends.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The essential functions of this position are performed in an indoor environment.Position requires frequent sitting, repetitive motions, lifting of negligible weights, fine dexterity and the ability to clearly see and hear.Occasional pushing, pulling, bending, carrying, lifting up to ten (10) pounds and kneeling may be required for some duties.Ability to use various office equipment including computers, phones, fax machines, printers, copiers, mailers, etc.
