Maintenance Technician, HVAC – Bridgeport Correctional Center

Essential Duties:
Perform maintenance and repair of electrical systems, refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Recommend contracted assistance when on-center repair is not possible.
Perform routine schedule checks of air conditioning/heating systems and refrigeration units.
Assist with repair or replacement of faulty or HVAC or refrigeration units, outlets and fuses as directed. Perform minor construction and repair of structural woodwork.
Assist with installation of window shades or coverings, security locks, and other general maintenance and repairs as directed by supervisor.
Help prepare surfaces for finishing, i.e., painting, as directed.
Direct Inmates assigned to facility maintenance.
Perform preventive maintenance checks of HVAC units and equipment.
Perform on-call support in emergency situations when equipment malfunctions.
Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent (GED).
Two (2) years full-time, wage-earning operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC or refrigeration systems and equipment experience.
Thirty (30) semester hours from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

Associate degree from a college or university accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation CHEA or United States Department of Education USDE in HVAC or refrigeration.

Graduation from HVAC or refrigeration program from equivalent technical trade school.
—OR—
Graduation from HVAC or refrigeration program from a U.S. military technical training school.
Must possess current Environmental Protection Agency approved Type I and Type II Refrigerant Recovery certification. Must maintain Environmental Protection Agency approved Type I and Type II Refrigerant Recovery certification for continued employment in position.
A valid drivers license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
Must successfully complete annual background checks and in-service training requirements, both of which must be approved by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).
Pay: $25.00 per hour
Schedule: Full time, 8-hour shifts
