Position Description
Bob L. Herd Department of Petroleum Engineering in the Whitacre College of Engineering at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor to begin Jan. 2025 (preferred) or summer 2025.

About the College
The Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering is the college of engineering at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. The engineering program has existed at Texas Tech University since 1925. Additionally, the Whitacre College of Engineering administers graduate engineering degree programs at the universitys campus in Amarillo, Texas. Many of the colleges degree programs are accredited by ABET. The Whitacre College of Engineering is the first and, presently, the only school in the world to offer a Doctor of Philosophy degree in wind science and engineering.

About the Department/School/Area
The Bob L. Herd Department of Petroleum Engineering is flourishing with alumni involvement and corporate participation in the heart of the most active oil and gas basin in the world, the Permian Basin. The department has 11 full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty, three instructors, and five full-time staff members. The Terry Fuller Petroleum Engineering Research Building on the Engineering Key was completed in 2014. The building includes more than 42,000 square feet of modern classrooms, cutting-edge laboratories, and administrative space. The facility assists with recruiting students and internationally renowned faculty to further advance petroleum engineering. In addition, the Oilfield Technology Center (OTC) was completed in 2017. The OTC is a 10-acre teaching and research facility in the oilfield on Texas Tech property 15 minutes from campus. It has a 4,000-square-foot building, a 4,000-foot test well, tank batteries, gas facilities, and a functional drilling rig.

Major/Essential Functions
In line with TTUs strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas o teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

Faculty Qualifications

1. A doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related field is required.
2. Demonstrated research ability as evidenced by a track record of publications in highly impacted journals.
3. A record of documents or submissions indicative of an active pursuit of external research funding in traditional petroleum engineering and emerging areas like CCS, geothermal, hydrogen, and methane emission control, and the establishment of a research group.
4. Effective written and verbal communication skills as evidenced by relevant training, public presentation, or competition.

Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

1. Expertise in Reservoir Engineering and Reservoir Simulation.
2. Teaching experience is not required however the candidate should show the ability to teach or share their expertise with a variety of audiences.
3. Ability to develop and teach courses in petroleum engineering and new emerging areas as evidenced by their teaching or teaching assistant experience, and expertise areas in front of petroleum and new emerging research.
4. Ability to collaborate with other professionals in the department, college, and other institutes on writing multi-disciplinary proposals and research projects.
