WSP USA is currently seeking a full-time Lead Consultant, Traffic Engineer for our Las Vegas office. Be involved in projects with our Pacific Mountain West District Traffic Engineering team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients objectives and solves their challenges.

The Lead Consultant, Traffic Engineer will bring leadership and skills to deliver a variety of traffic and ITS related design tasks and will provide technical assistance and guidance in engineering and design for our local, state, and regional clients.

Your Impact

Perform professional traffic engineering work related to maintenance of traffic, signage, pavement markings, traffic signals, ITS, and roadway illumination.

Prepare plans, specifications, quantities, and cost estimates for traffic design elements within transportation infrastructure projects.

Oversee and assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, and as-builts for project development.

Ensure excellence in overall project delivery.

Coordinate, review and approve traffic design plans, ensuring data integrity and work is compliant with all applicable best practices, codes, ordinances, and regulations.

Train and provide guidance to junior-level engineers on traffic design.

Engage in business development activities related to project pursuits and preparing statements of qualifications and proposals.

Remain current in the latest traffic engineering techniques and practices.

Prepare technical reports which may include concept of operations, basis of design, transportation and incident management plans, and small-scale traffic engineering studies.

Lead traffic design tasks and manage scope, schedule, and budget.

Assist with traffic engineering studies and operational analysis.

Work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment with other engineers, planners, scientific professionals, DOT, and transit agency staff.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.

7 years of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior traffic design experience.

Licensed Professional Engineer.

Proficient and extensive knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices, process, and design related to traffic control equipment, ITS, related communications systems and roadway illumination.

Experience with roadway planning, design, and construction management; including project involvement in a variety of larger and more complex infrastructure projects, rehabilitation and construction of pavement, navigational aids, grading design, and safety management.

Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant roadway transportation construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.

Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of transportation corridors, applying applicable regulations and policies

Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, AutoCAD, Microstation, AGi32, and GuideSIGN or similar software.

Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.

Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

PTOE and/or RSP certified.

Knowledge and experience with traffic analysis software including HCS, Synchro and VISSIM.

Experience with complete streets and active transportation projects.

A member of and/or actively participates in local professional practice organizations.

Post-graduate degree in Engineering
