JOB SUMMARY

Under direct supervision, provides routine general clerical support such as filing, taking and delivering messages, preparing mailings and photocopying.

This is the first level of a four-level classification series. The Administrative specialist I differs from other classifications in the series in that this classification is considered entry-level. The incumbent performs varied general office support tasks under direct supervision, following specific instructions or established office procedures.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Sorts and files material (alphabetical, numerical,subject) by rules and directions furnished.

Answers telephones, takes and delivers messages, refers calls to proper person.

Performs deliveries to and from work sites.

Prepares mailings for distribution and/or processing.

Operates equipment such as copier, adding machine, fax machine, etc.

Runs errands and works on special projects as needed.

Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

EDUCATION – EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

Graduation from a high school or equivalent with course work in general office practices, and six (6) months of experience in an office, administrative, or related support position is required.

SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

Knowledge: basic arithmetic. Skills: Learning office practices and procedures, operating office equipment, following clearly stated oral and written instructions or procedures, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships as required by work assignments, following-through on assignments as directed, oral and written communication.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Continuously uses vision. Frequently sits for long periods of time. Frequently talks and listens. Manual dexterity for computer work and routine paperwork. Occasionally walks and reaches with hands and arms. Occasionally lifts up to 25 lbs.
