Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Accounting Specialist for the Research Financial Services Department. As part of the Office for Research, this position will process customer payment activities, including receiving customer payments and electronic remittance advice, perform cash handling activities, and apply payments to sponsored projects as well as create check requests.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Resolves issues with accounts receivable balances, thoroughly investigating any account discrepancies by obtaining information from departments and sponsors.
  • Prepares account receivable aging reports, monitors and analyzes accounts receivable balances, including creating reports that track payments and revenue received from customers.
  • Manages collections from sponsors by evaluating payment plans, payment history and, if need be, contacting a sponsor collections department to receive payment.
  • Works closely with the Letter of Credit supervisor and the grant analysts/accountants to maintain a working relationship with sponsor contacts responding to requests of unpaid receivables and payment of expenditures and events in the Financial Management System.
  • Assists with audits on an as needed basis.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education/experience that demonstrates understanding of GAAP.
  • A minimum of two years relevant experience in a financial/accounting function,
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Good communication skills and computer literacy.
  • Advanced Excel experience including pivot tables and V-look up required for reporting and analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a non-profit or higher Ed. setting. Experience in Oracle Financial Management System desired
