Rehabilitation Psychologist

The Department of Rehabilitation at NYU Langone Brooklyn invites applications for a full time licensed psychologist specializing in rehabilitation/health psychology (inpatient focus) or neuropsychology (less emphasis, but can be outpatient focus). The position is ~80% inpatient, 20% outpatient.
Our inpatient 30-bed adult unit is a stroke rehabilitation Joint Commission accredited site. We often admit patients from NYU Langones Comprehensive Stroke Center, certified by the Joint Commission as a comprehensive stroke center. We also care for patients receiving treatment for other neurological conditions, including traumatic brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, and neurosurgical populations.
Inpatient Responsibilities (80%):
- Conduct brief neurobehavioral status exams to promote rehabilitation and psychosocial functioning and/or identify targets for psychological intervention.
- Frequent targets for assessment on the inpatient service include behavior, emotional state, insight/self-awareness and coping skills.
- Provide brief, evidenced based interventions. The focus of interventions will be to support adjustment, improve coping and/or cooperation and participation in all aspects of the rehabilitation program.
- Consult with team members daily and summarize/aggregate collected data in verbal and/or written form to inform behavioral plans.
- Participate in rounds, case conferences, and team meetings to discuss and evaluate the diagnoses and treatment/management of patients.
- Deliver psychoeducational services to families.
Outpatient Responsibilities:
The outpatient clinic is a half-day in-person service with option for additional hours virtually. The clinic is primarily utilized for follow up with patients previously known to the psychologist on the inpatient service; however, referrals from neurology are also frequently accepted. Nature/purpose of follow up will depend on the psychologists area of specialization but may include:
- Cognitive rehabilitation and/or individual psychotherapy to further support adjustment/coping following acquired brain injury
- Health and behavior intervention(s) to modify factors directly affecting physiological functioning, health and well being, or specific disease-related problems
- Comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations to clarify diagnosis and assist with identifications of additional resources, return to work, long-term planning, etc.
Of note, the psychology service has well established and integrated externship training program. Post training supervision experience and interest in training is preferred.
Salary range 110k-116k
Candidates must have a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from an APA accredited program with an APA accredited pre-doctoral internship and must have completed a formal postdoctoral fellowship or equivalent in rehab psychology, health psychology or clinical neuropsychology. Applicants should be licensed or license-eligible in the state of New York. Candidates should be board-certified or eligible for ABPP board certification; in addition, 1-3 years post training clinical experience and expertise in the assessment of stroke and/or traumatic brain injury is preferred. However, applicants from a broader range of training will be considered. Must be eligible for licensure in the State of New York.
