What youll do Under close supervision of the Clinic Manager and/or RN Supervisor, Nursing Manager and Chief of Ophthalmology the Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician provides technical assistance with a variety of screening, testing and procedures to ensure prompt, courteous and high quality patient care in the ophthalmology clinics for the Ophthalmologists and Optometrists. At the direction of Clinical Manager or RN Supervisor, Senior Ophthalmic personnel are responsible for training of technical support staff, reviewing provider schedules and making recommendations to assure efficient flow of the provider’s clinics. Assists the Ophthalmologists/Optometrists with obtaining and recording an accurate patient history. Completes and records proper rooming and screening including basic visual tests, lensometry and slit lamp usage. Performs automated, non-automated keratometry and various visual field tests. Performs OCT testing,, Topography testing, and photography as ordered by provider. Performs and accurately records color vision testing as needed. Assists the Ophthalmologists/Optometrists with providing appropriate care to patients ranging from infancy to geriatric. Under the supervision of a licensed physician/optometrist instill mydriatic or cycloplegic eye drops and anesthetic eye drops. Will assist in triage of patients utilizing standard triage form. Pend orders according to policy. Ensures orders are signed by providers prior to fulfilling orders. Proper processing and disinfecting of instruments and equipment. Performs pachymetry testing as ordered. Assures proper instrument maintenance. Stocks examination rooms with appropriate medications and supplies in assigned areas. Ensures that medication and supplies expiration dates are current. Disinfects and maintains exam rooms. Completes opening and/or closing duties. Maintains general competencies and medical knowledge in order to perform job functions. Understands ocular emergencies and can communicate such based on feedback from Senior Ophthalmic Technicians and/or feedback from providers. Completes age-specific competencies annually based on review of personnel file. Ensures that all efforts are made to improve staff communication, support providers, perform necessary procedures and create operational efficiencies throughout the shift. Participates in daily pre-shift meetings. Provides up to date information to providers and clinical staff related to patient needs, current bottlenecks, and potential issues that may arise. Communicates clinic operational efficiency and issues to clinic manager and provides recommendations for solutions. Participates in performance improvement and regulatory readiness. Disinfects toys as required by infection control standards. Assists in maintaining clinic stock and pharmaceuticals. Other duties as assigned. What we need from you Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Experience: At least 2 years of previous patient care experience preferred. Physical Requirements: Medium Work – Exerting up to 50 lbs. for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Occasional balancing, climbing, crouching, grasping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, stooping, walking. Frequent typing/clerical/dexterity, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception). Frequent fit testing. Constant hearing and seeing/monitor/computer use. Hazards: Occasional mechanical. Frequent bodily fluids/bloodborne exposure, chemical, electrical. Working Conditions: Occasional noise, wet and/or humid, dust, fumes, gases, odors. Travel: Occasional Travel – The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis. Pay Range Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. Pay Range Minimum: USD $19.12/Hr. Pay Range Maximum: USD $28.68/Hr.
