Position Description
Job Summary:
The Accountant II performs detailed activities associated with the month end general ledger financial close process, maintaining general ledger accounts and developing financial statements and reports and maintaining the Fixed Asset system. Daily activities may be focused upon specific operational concerns (e.g., daily cash reconciliation). All functions will be performed within the guidelines of the Seneca Gaming Corporation’s policies and procedures, Internal Control Standards and objectives.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
Assist completion of the month end general ledger close:
Prepare and enter general ledger journal entries in accordance with the procedures of the Financial Accounting Department, using all necessary support internal/external to SGC’s business systems;
Analyze expense accounts for proper period recording under GAAP;
Analyze balance sheet accounts for proper amount and period recording under GAAP;
Review and report on significant variances noted during the closing process;
Prepare general ledger account reconciliations, monthly;
Investigate/implement continuous process improvement through automation, where practicable.
Prepare/maintain daily cash control files for individual subsidiaries.
Initiate wire transfer protocol, as directed.
Act as liaison with SGC’s gaming operations (Casino Cage & Income Audit departments) to investigate/remediate daily variances between daily cash control and bank balances.
Act as liaison with SGC’s financial institutions to initiate/maintain add/delete/modify requests for bank accounts and/or credit card merchant locations.
Act as liaison with SGC’s financial institutions for variance resolution for bank accounts and/or credit card merchant locations.
Assist in special projects as required.
Verify the accuracy of information transmitted to the financial reporting system.
Adhere to regulatory, departmental, and company policies in an ethical manner.
Provide accounting support to other departments as needed.
Perform expense account analysis for all properties, monthly.
Maintain Fixed assets system in accordance with GASB accounting principles, and reporting requirements to include:
Maintain fixed asset/capital expenditure records;
Maintain and prepare month-end fixed asset reconciliation schedules to general ledger, cash flow and physical slot reconciliations.
Ensure integrity of financial records and other support.
Manage large amounts of data/workflow meeting monthly, quarterly and annual deadlines.
Prepare and enter fixed asset data into the fixed asset system.
Review Capital Expenditure Requests (CER) for accuracy and completeness in accordance with Company policy,
Work closely with Financial Accountant III in maintaining the fixed asset records for each capital project, including accounting for the purchase of construction in process in accordance with company policies and maintaining sufficient records to ensure that each purchase is adequately substantiated.
Assist with managing Project Accounting records and reconciliations.
Work cross functionally when performing annual Fixed Asset verification meeting tight deadlines.
Provide detailed information/support regarding audit requests as required.
Maintain a current understanding of all policy and guidelines regarding information security including the Seneca Gaming Corporation Acceptable Use Policy. Understand and comply with all information security policies and procedures at all times.
Provide exceptional customer service to all patrons and communicate in a pleasant, friendly and professional manner at all times. Maintain a professional work environment with supervisors, managers and staff.
Meet the attendance guidelines of the job and adhere to regulatory, departmental and company policies.
Must complete all required SGC training programs within nine (9) months from commencement of employment.
Attend all necessary meetings.

Hours are determined by a 24-hour schedule.
Position Requirements
Each position has varying minimum qualifications. In the absence of fully qualified candidates, some requirements may be waived.
Education/Experience:
Must be 18 years of age or older upon employment.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related area is required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
One (1) to three (3) years accounting/general ledger experience is required.
Knowledge of Infinium, Showcase, and other accounting software packages is preferred.
Language Skills and Reasoning Ability:
Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
Ability to write routine correspondence and to speak effectively to the public, employees and customers.
Must have the ability to deal effectively and interact well with the customers and employees.
Must have the ability to resolve problems/conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.
